View Full Version : Trojan Issues?

Dark[Devil]
2007-03-31, 14:26
Last night I got infected with some viruses, and or Trojans. Avast anti virus alerted me of Win32:VBStat-C[Trj], which I moved to the Chest as it recommended. Later on however my internet was running extremely slow, and I was getting popups. I searched and suspected Vundo, so I downloaded the fix, it found a handful of files, and I fixed that. No more pop ups, but my internet was still slow. In the process of doing a lot of scans, and everything, but as of yet nothing is coming up. I hope you may be able to take a look at the HJT Log, and perhaps see if anything bad is still lurking around. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, even though you are asking me to come in kind of late in this repair, I will do my best if you will but follow the instructions.

1) It appears you have missed some important instructions our administrator has posted
at the top of the forum, especially this: "BEFORE you POST" Mandatory Steps Before Requesting Assistance
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
Please read and follow all instructions and post all required logs or reports, anything less will slow your process.
Use "Post Reply" to post the information in the instructions and stay in the same topic.

2) Please READ: Which HJT Version to use! http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=12274

3) Tell me in your next post what this stuff is:
C:\DOCUME~1\TALON6~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\DRDld\sdtrial-regnow.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\TALON6~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\StpF_TMP.EXE
C:\DOCUME~1\TALON6~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\is-8DEIQ.tmp\is-G6GC0.tmp

I did an online scan with Trend Mirco (as oddly enough, my Avast! anti-virus detected the Panda online check as a virus) However, I Could not see an option to save the reports, or log files, etc. It did find 2 things.
TROJ_VUNDO.XQ
ADWARE_FASTERXP

Which It said it deleted and cleaned.

The following files are

C:\DOCUME~1\TALON6~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\DRDld\sdtrial-regnow.exe is Spyware Doctor, a program I downloaded and installed to see if it would recognize/remove any of the nasties.

C:\DOCUME~1\TALON6~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\StpF_TMP.EXE - I do not know
C:\DOCUME~1\TALON6~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\is-8DEIQ.tmp\is-G6GC0.tmp - I do not know

Thanks.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Here is information about that trojan if you would like to see it:
http://research.sunbelt-software.com/threatdisplay.aspx?name=Trojan-Spy.Win32.VBStat.c&threatid=50565
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Win32%3AVBStat-C&btnG=Search

which I moved to the Chest as it recommended
Is that a quarantine area of Avast or Spyware Doctor?

Let's do this for starters and see what happens.

1) Please read this information: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#O7Diag
If this has been disabled on purpose, ignore my instructions to fix it.

2) Navigate to that "Chest" and delete the item if it is there.

3) I believe you java program need an update, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\ while you are doing that, let's also do this:
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

4) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

5) Spyware Doctor: From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side. Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".

6) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

7) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2160D452-2828-4222-9DF5-A6120955AED8} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {346A84E0-CA3B-4C1B-B87A-4B639B3093C2} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {57E218E6-5A80-4f0c-AB25-83598F25D7E9} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)
O7 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

8) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

9) C:\DOCUMENTS & Settings~1\TALON6~1\LOCALSETTINGS~1\Temp\ <<< navigate to that temp file and make sure it is empty. DO NOT delete the folder.

Since you have SpywareDoctor on board, run a scan with it and with your Antivirus program (update first) and post the results of both, or let me know at least if they find anything they could not remove. Post also the uninstall list and any comments you think will help.

Thanks

Hello, Thank you. The numbers and comments below, correspond with the numbers and directions you gave me.

1) This is the only one in which I did not understand what the link was for, or what you wanted me to do, so I ignored this step.

2) I deleted the File/Trojan from the Avast! Virus Chest (quarantine area for Avast!)

3) I uninstalled and updated Java, I have the Hijackthis log at the bottom of this post.

7) I selected and fixed the five you pointed out

8) I ran the cleaner

9) This part is a little tricky. I copied and pasted the path you gave me, but it said it "Cannot find file://c:/documents%20%26%20settings~2/talon6~1/localsettings~1/temp"
So I assumed you were talking about

C:\Documents and Settings\Talon 6-1 Modem\Local Settings\Temp

Which the folder was not empty. Now the only thing that will not delete is the folder 1015wrd.~lk, which is inside of the Temp folder. The message when I try to delete it says, 9393fspext.dll cannot be deleted (I assume thats inside the 1015wrd.~lk folder)

I ran Spyware Doctor, and Avast! Anti virus.

Spyware Doctor found and removed 11 infections which were listed under two groups, Advertising and Tracking Cookies.

Avast! Came out clean, nothing to report.

Thanks for the feedback, this one:

1) This is the only one in which I did not understand what the link was for, or what you wanted me to do, so I ignored this step.Deals was this item in the HJT log:
O7 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
Sometimes malware will make these changes to benefit what they want to do:
Click the link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#O7Diag
and read the information in 07 Section.

Please note that many Administrators at offices lock this down on purpose so having HijackThis fix this may be a breach of corporate policy. If you are the Administrator and it has been enabled without your permission, then have HijackThis fix it.If this does not apply to you, malware probably made the changes, so you should use HJT to change it back. I scheduled it in the removal with HJT.

In number nine, your Temp and Temp internet files should be cleaned on a regular basis anyway, which is why they are called Temporary. I have no idea why this item:
Talon 6-1 Modem would be in Documents and Local Settings and would even have a temp folder? Any idea yourself? This is your computer?

These: 1015wrd.~lk (no information) fspext.dll >>> http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fspext.dll+&btnG=Search I doubt they are a problem, Prevx and google do not know. If you want to scan the files, here are free scans:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

If you want to control those junk cookies, look at this information:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/cookies.htm
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/privacy/config.mspx

Uninstall list: I am looking for security issues and malware, it is a good chance for you to look for stuff you no longer use...optional.
and I see no problems. I will make this comments. We know only to run one Antivirus program and one Firewall but the jury is still out on what happens with multiple spyware programs. I can not give you that answer. You may want to ask SpywareDoctor/WindowsDefender technical support about any issues occuring if they run at the same time.

Please post a new HJT log for a final check, let me know about any malware issues.

Thanks

Hello. Talon 6-1 Modem is just the default name of the computer

Looks good:bigthumb: let's clean those system restore files:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
