Hi
My computer has recently been very slow and choppy. On a restart the computer takes much longer than it used to to start-up. It will often render my background and then take several more minutes before explorer and all the other programs that i have on startup actually start. I am almost 100% sure that my computer is completely clean of spyware, and viruses i am pretty knowledgeable with computers and have run many scans and looked over lots of logs but i can't seem to find a problem. No new updates seem to have caused this slow down.
I am running windows xp media center, on an HP laptop.
Please let me know what information you will need to help me better diagnose my problem. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Welcome the the forum, while malware can be the reason for this, there can also be many other reasons and the fact you say you have scanned and nothing is showing indicates this is probably the case. The first thing I want to mention is if your computer is still under warranty, just about anything you do will cancell the warranty, so if it is contact the manufacturer for help.

I read through the links that you sent me in your previous post and ran the test at pcpitstop i had already run this however and it came back with no problems as it did before. I was able to remove three things from my startup list but my computer remains slow.
Issues:
1. On reboot the computer will load the background but take several more minutes to bring up explorer and then even more time to start Norton and the other programs set to run on start-up.
2. Opening folders and even trying to access applications from the start menu is delayed often with the folder coming up slowly and then several moments passing before the contents are displayed.
3. Frequent freezing of problems, where it takes several minutes for the program to recover and continue normal operation.
These and other issues started to occur only a few weeks ago. There is still plenty of room on my hard drive, i ran a registry cleaner to fix all the dead links, and cleaned out all of my browser caches. I removed all cookies disabled several start-up items and shut down several services but my computer is still slower than it should be.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I suggest you review the information in the links I posted, I see programs I doubt are needed everytime. One issue is that your are running MSConfig in Selective Startup mode so I have no way of knowing what you may have turned off. Post all HJT logs in Normal Mode and return to SS when we finish to save your resources.

Sorry, I did not refresh during the time I was posting, so I did not see your post. I will respond to it now.
Can you link me to the test results at PCPitStop?
Please tell me how much RAM you have installed:
Right click MyComputer then click Properties, RAM will appear near the bottom on the General Tab.
I have several computers and the one I am working on needs at least 256 more MB's of RAM. I load McAfee VSO (a lot smaller than your
Norton Internet Security) SpywareGuard, Windows Live Messenger and Zone Alarm and it takes about ten minutes.
I asked about SpySweeper because it is a real resource hog, and with Symantec, you have two. If you own it I suppose you are stuck, but if not I would uninstall it, there is virtually no benefit to have it running after a trail period.
I also wonder if you have a firewall in the NIS?, if so you don't need ZA. One Firewall, One Antivirus and at least one realtime spyware program.

Chances are this is the sign of something other than malware. The reason why I wanted feedback is I recognize most malware symptoms and the lack of them and any sign in the logs is unusual if malware is present.

I do not own webroot spysweeper on this computer, i used to trial version a while ago to help remove parts of a virus that i was infected with. I will uninstall that. Norton does come with a firewall but i had read that it was not outstanding and i have used zone alarm for many years and it has always done a great job which i why i have both running. I have 1 gig of ram in this computer however when i ran a systeminfo from the command line it showed that on average i only have 300 megs available not sure if this is normal. Thanks for the information, and the feedback. It appears your clipboard was not cleared and you posted two hijackThis logs and no uninstall list. I would like a look at that information.
SpySweeper, as I said it uses a bunch of resources, uninstalling it should help, You do want to make sure you have a realtime spyware program running though. Windows Defender is available free if you wish.
You can research the issue but the vast majoriity of security experts are going to suggest you run only one. This includes Microsoft which tells you to turn off the SP2 firewall if you run a third part FW. I personally run Zone Alarm on all of my computers, but I suggest you uninstall one of those.
