SpyBot S&D put Backweb/backweblite into Recovery Zips which is fine but now every time I start up I get "Runner error invalid backweb application" notice. Search shows all but 2 files in 'recovery' both are Backweb 137903. Can I safely delete these? Or should I restore all those zip files in case another programme needs them? Very confused here.

Hello,

Do you have F-Secure installed on your PC?
F-Secure installs with a version of Backweb. If you fix BackWeb with Spybot-S&D F-Secure can't update any longer and so you get these error messages.
You have two possible solutions: You can either recover what you did with Spybot-S&D or you reinstall F-Secure without BackWeb.

Best regards

No I don't have F-secure, I know it has to be one of the applications in start up but no idea which one so reinstalling 'without backweb' wouldn't be possible.

How deadly is Backweb if I just put everything back to pre-S & D action?

Try putting them back for now.

It would be helpful to know which program is using BackWeb.

For instance:
http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/backweb-8876480.exe.html
http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/detail.php?id=279

You could post a Spybot-S&D log here for us to take a look at, we might be able to find out from that.

Open SpyBot, check for and get any updates available,
Close all browsers, check for problems and fix everything found.
Then on the toolbar menu select mode and switch to advanced mode, on the left lower down select tools, and view report, ensure all the options are selected near the bottom except

Uncheck[ ] do not report disabled or known legitimate Items.
uncheck[ ] Include a list of services in report.
Uncheck[ ] Include uninstall list in report.

Now select (near the top) view report.
Press export in the save in box choose a place such as your my documents folder, then in your next post near the bottom select the "browse" button; navigate to and attach or post that report.

Thanks for helping Sandra & Tashi, sorry for delay in responding, power cut here last night.

Have not put anything back yet Tashi but did the other things, (Can't see a 'browse' button, maybe because I'm using Opera) trying 'attachment' ...new to forums so hope this is right.

Hi Dougie and thanks.

Here it is:
C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe

Description:
Based upon HP's own description from here - "With the My HP Center, consumers have access directly from the desktop to Internet sites featuring special offers for HP customers ranging from personal finance and shopping to digital imaging and music" I have classified this as adware. The number may change - if yours is different let me know
http://castlecops.com/s1436-BACKWEB_137903_exe.html
I will do further research on it.
Edit:
Please see:
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_b.htm

It might be best to put it back and then remove it via; Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs.

Make sure you only remove BackWeb.

Thanks Tashi, have done all of that now. It didn't reappear in Add/Remove but did via jvpowertools so I took it from there. Ran SpyBot again...clear. Restarted and runner error still there.

To get rid of the runner error message I need to disable the hp center in start up? ?(C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe).

Hi

Yes disable it with your startupmanager program or SpyBots tools if you like
Startup (common), hp center.lnk
C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe
There is probaly an option in the hp center to not have it run at startup, but there are so many versions i dont know exactly where.

Hi Dougie.

No such thing as a dumb question, just learning experiences. :D
