G'day Edd and welcome to the forum, if you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, it appears you have missed some important instructions our administrator has posted at the top of the forum, especially this: "BEFORE you POST" Mandatory Steps Before Requesting Assistance http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
Please read and follow all instructions and post all required logs or reports, anything less will slow your process. Use "Post Reply" to post the information in the instructions and stay in the same topic.
Cheers

You have a bit of a mess here mate!
Thanks Edd for the HJT log. You may want to read those instructions again, they are important. They specify a online scan with the results posted. You may wait on the scan until I ask for it. My first question is did someone download this junk on purpose:
C:\program files\mailskinner\mailskinner.exe read about it here: http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-11815.html
MailSkinner - an application by Electronic_Group , notorious for its premium rate "drive by" installed porn dialersThis item is often bundled with a lot of other junk, I can't tell about the infection just yet, I see one item and you have described another:
C:\windows\system32\xlibgfl254.dll so I have no idea what we are going to run into. We will proceed like this and see what happens:
(Follow the instructions in the numbered order)
1) Before we start, I am showing this program: C:\PROGRA~1\eScan\AvpM.exe (Kaspersky AntiVirus)http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/avpm/
as well as this Program: C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\ (AVG Anti-Virus) see this information:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/03/AR2005120300087.html
Please uninstall one of those anti-virus programs.
2) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall mailskinner. Also uninstall any other programs that you know do not belong there, if you are unsure, let me know and I will look.
(In the next step, since I cannot see the file in the log, I am using the spelling you provided. Please be 100% sure you spelled that file in red correctly before you proceed)
3) How to use the Delete on Reboot tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb
Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\windows\system32\xlibgfl254.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.
4) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.
5) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
6) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.
7) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.
8) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {84938242-5C5B-4A55-B6B9-A1507543B418} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cbqkxi] c:\windows\system32\cbqkxi.exe cbqkxi
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MailSkinner] c:\program files\mailskinner\mailskinner.exe
O21 - SSODL: eitheror - {2016a466-91a2-43c6-97d8-2fd380f065ef} - (no file)
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
9) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
c:\program files\mailskinner\ <<< delete that folder
c:\windows\system32\cbqkxi.exe Delete that folder
10) You have AVG Anti-Spyware onboard, use the instruction in the following link to run it, delete or at least quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165
11) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart the computer and post the scan results from AVG Anti-Spyware and a new HJT log. Add any comments you think will help and tell me how the computer is running.
Thanks

G'Day Edd, before I start, I did say mailskinner was a problem, this item:
Adware:adware/navipromo Not disinfected c:\windows\system32\aitmevrnd_nav.dat
probably came with it and it has a hidden rootkit that must be removed.
C:\WINDOWS\emMon.exe <<< would you have a look at that program and assure me it is safe and valid.
Stick with me, you are doing great so far:bigthumb: My suggestion would be to keep the computer offline as much as possible until we clear the junk.
The HJT log does not look bad so let's have a look at this rootkit. Please follow the directions carefully.
Please download F-Secure BlackLight Beta:
https://europe.f-secure.com/exclude/blacklight/index.shtml
Save it to its own folder in the Desktop
Double-click blbeta.exe to run the program
Click : Scan
A list of all items found is created
The list is in the BlackLight folder on the Desktop, and named fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (xxxxxxx are numbers).
Please provide the log created by BlackLight in your next reply.
(do not fix anything, most will be valid)
I need only the BlackLight log this time.
Thanks...Phil

Where you at down under. Is it not fun how I can help from Florida in the USA:laugh:
That's what we needed Edd, you can see the hidden rootkit. Please take the time to read this tutorial so you will no exactly what you are doing when you proceed:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial124.html
You will be doing "Step 2 - Cleaning" and these are the nasties:
04/11/07 21:30:47 [Info]: Hidden process: C:\windows\system32\aitmevrnd.exe
04/11/07 21:35:27 [Info]: Hidden file: c:\WINDOWS\system32\aitmevrnd.dat

04/11/07 21:35:28 [Info]: Hidden file: c:\WINDOWS\system32\aitmevrnd_navps.dat
When you finish, post a new HJT log. We should have one file to kill in it.
Thanks...Phil

em Monitor application from EMPIA Technology Corp >>> looks valid.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=EMPIA+Technology+Corp&btnG=Google+Search
Your HJT log looks clean, how is the computer running now? Let's do this:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Gday Phil,,,It is amazing how fast we can communicate with a key board:blink: I live on the east coast of NSW ,5 minutes to beach little place called Coffs Harbour about 500kms north of Sydney nice spot great weather nice beaches and water is most of the time quite warm we can still swim in winter:bigthumb:
Is there anything else you can see that we can get rid of ,going to ask about all the patches I have in add/remove can I get rid of the old ones don't the new patches replace the old?.

Hi Edd, were you downloading updates from Microsoft when this happened? They have a problem with a recent update and have had to rush out a patch to fix a patch. Please post the error message "word for word" exactly as you receive it...no spelling errors! That's the only way I can research it.
Let me see your uninstall list and I can advise you better about patches.
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
Understand that the Windows patches will accumulate until they release SP#3 which I understand is in the works somewhere.
Must be nice to live near the beach, this webcam is about two miles from my home. http://www.beachtourism.com/pier.htm

Uninstall list: I am looking for malware and security issues. It's a good chance for you to look for programs you no longer use.
Hijackthis 1.99.1
HijackThis 1.99.1 <<< if that is installed twice, please delete one copy.
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11

Hackers are using these out of date versions to exploit. Download the newest version then uninstall all old version in Add Remove programs.
Start > Control Panel > Java Console (small coffee cup) Updates tab > Update
LiveReg (Symantec Corporation) <<< unless it has something to do with Norton Ghost, not sure why it is here?
Panda ActiveScan <<< if you are done with it, I would uninstall and get it fresh if ever needed again.
Viewpoint Media Player (Remove Only) see the information:
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.

There are a few items I do not know, but they don't look like malware. I believe you will keep all of the hotfixes and updates until the next Service Pack.
Hope that helps...how is the computer running.
Thanks

Problem is where the program might be legal, downloading many files is not as well as dangerous.
As you look, leave security and microsoft stuff alone. If you run into questions, post them.

right Phil, computer is running really well now,in add/remove I tried remove Hijackthis, the first one it said==File "C:\Program files\hijackthis\uninsooo.dat"does not exist cannot uninstall.
the second Hijackthis came up with an "unexpected error".I went to Jave deleted those downloader a new version and came back to Hijackthis second one was ok this time but the first one still said there is nothing to delete.when I shutdown last night the screen said Shutting down when it got to installing update 1 of 1 the screen just froze then but itdid say...
SCVHOST.exe. application
The instruction at "0x745f2780"reference memory at : 0x00000000"The memory could not be read.Terminate or cancel to debug.I hit the restart button and did a quick shutdown.

G'Day Edd, all I could suggest is that you delete all of the HJT junk, once you know it is all gone, then use this link, it will self install in C:\Program Files\ and I believe it even adds a shortcut to the Desktop?
http://www.cybertechhelp.com/download/file/self-extracting-hijack-this-installer
Lot's of information about the error message, remember to use Google, http://www.google.com/ not much information available that Google does not have. I would look at the Microsoft information first:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927385 and then move on to the Google if need be.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=0x745f2780%22reference+memory+at+%3A+0x00000000%22The+memory+could+not+be+read&btnG=Google+Search
Just be careful and take your time as you try the workarounds (Australian word? like walkabout?...lol)
Another tool that will often correct issues with the computer when a corrupt or missing file is involved is System File Checker: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
Here is a list of some tools available to you: http://www.networkclue.com/os/Windows/commands/index.aspx
Cheers
Just looked at your new error message and I can see it is not word for word and it is miss spelled. You make sure it is 100% correct, then enter it into Google. I have a notion the infomation I provided will deal with both, but still search to see what information is available.

Hi Phil...not sure what you mean--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G'Day Edd, all I could suggest is that you delete all of the HJT junk, once you know it is all gone, then use this link, it will self install in C:\Program Files\ and I believe it even adds a shortcut to the Desktop?
http://www.cybertechhelp.com/downloa...this-installer.
Do I uninstall the hjt program, and then go to the link you gave,--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
which error message is miss spelled, how do I copy & paste from the desktop into this thread.

Edd, since you are having problems removing one version of HJT and we do not want two running on the computer, YES, delete them both and and download the new version from the link i provided (not the one you copied, it will not work) (truncicated I think is the word?)
Do I uninstall the hjt program, and then go to the link you gaveIt's not really and uninstall, since there is no uninstaller, just delete the folder, everything will go with it to the recycle bin.
MSASCui.exe..application error
applcation failed to initialize properly ( 0xc0000005 ). <<< at least one word is mispelled, if you cannot copy/paste the information to Google, then you need to be 100% sure you type it exactly as it is presented to you.
Thanks
I want to mention that HJT is not an issue just now, since you do not even need it. I would concentrate on finding out why you are getting the error message.

Gday Phil,,sorry could not get back to you last night ( my time ),my control panel would not open by that time I had enough and hit the sack, pick and shovel is easier to work with lol,
MSASCui.exe. Application Error.
The application failed to initialize properly ( 0xc0000005 ).click on ok to terminate the application.
we are now running at a good speed , I did'nt think a missing ( I ) would be so critical now it written word for word  .
Phil I can't thank you enough for the time you have given me in this matter I have learnt a lot through this,I guess the hic-up I have now has nothing to do with virus but a programing problem.
cheers Ed.

There is little doubt that Windows Defender is the application the error is coming from. What I would try first is to look here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=windows+defender+updates&btnG=Search
for answers, make sure you have the newest version and you are totally updated.
Then see if the error stops. If it does not, then uninstall the program and download it again from here:
