Backdoor.Hupigon

When I scan my computer with AVG Anti-Spyware I get a threat called Backdoor.Hupigon. I quarantine it and delete it but it reappears when I scan again with AVG. I googled it to see what it was but I got conflicting reports as to what it does and how much danger it poses. Any information you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Severe risks are typically installed without user interaction through security exploits, and may allow an attacker to remotely control the infected machine. Such risks may allow the attacker to install additional malware and use the compromised machine to participate in denial of service attacks, spamming, and bot nets, or to transmit sensitive data to a remote server. These risks severely compromise the system by lowering security settings, installing 'backdoors,' infecting system files, or spreading to other networked machines.
Without even proceeding further, if you have that trojan, you need this information:
A Backdoor is a software program that gives an attacker unauthorized access to a machine and the means for remotely controlling the machine without the user's knowledge. A Backdoor compromises system integrity by making changes to the system that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes unknown to the user.
One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Thanks for the info. I think I am going to try PC Restore. I was reading on the Dell website and it sounded like it would be the best choice for me since I am not at all a computer genius (as is obvious since I got some virus). Thanks again for the help. :bigthumb:

Thanks for the look, I do have suggestions.

1) Remember AVG Anti-Spyware does not give any realtime protection once the trial period is past, but it does use lots of your resources. Unless you own it, I would turn it off or uninstall it.

2) While the jury is still out on how many spyware programs are too many, I would ask Windows Defender technical support if it will run while AVG Anti-Spyware (which does basically the same thing) is running?

I removed the items you suggested. I will see if I can find out if AVG anti-spyware will affect my windows defender. Also, since I have Symantec anti-virus, would it be beneficial to get the AVG anti-virus software? Thanks again for the help. You are great! :bigthumb:
