View Full Version : Infected computer: slow loading, winhelp32, xs4
Hi,
I not quite sure what this computer is infected with. Symptons slow loading of apps (now running ok at the moment after doing some cleaning) and creation of files such as winhelp32.exe, xs4.exe, yserver.txt and few others which trendmicro has removed.
I've remove all the virus detect with trendmicro, ran it a second time and nothing is found. No threats found by spybot.

Welcome back to the forum, I am not seeing a whole lot in the HJT log. It may be that Trend got all of the infection?

If you had that on the computer you should change all passwords, preferably on another computer until we can be positive you are clean.

Since you posted, you must want to be sure your computer is clean. The first thing I see this this:

Download the newest version: Start > Control Panel > Java Console (little coffee cup) Updates Tab > Update. Once you have the newest version, uninstall all old versions in Add Remove Programs.
I suggest you consider turning off autoupdates (it's always been a little buggy and is not working as you can see) and update manually. It is every bit as important as Windows Critical Updates.

Make sure you delete or at least quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
Restart the computer and post the uninstall list, the scan results from AVG Anti-Spyware, a new HJT log and any comments you think will help.

AVG found and removed the spyware: trojan.small. Computer now runs smoothly, theres no more delays on apps. to load up.
Anything else I should do to ensure the systems clean?

Oops, didn't look at the adware properly. I thought it was the CWShredder but looks like some unusual button my gf downloaded. Decided to remove them all.

Would you please slow down and read the directions. This is your computer we are working on and not following the directions can result in damage to it. I am posting those instuctions again:
Restart the computer and post the uninstall list, the scan results from AVG Anti-Spyware, a new HJT log and any comments you think will help.
I have the results of AVG Anti-Spyware and I have the uninstall list I will comment on in a moment, now please post the HijackThis log.

HijackThis 2.0.0 <<< version in the log shows HijackThis v1.99.1? You did not update it to the beta version from Trend Micro did you?

HijackThis 2.0.0 <<< version in the log shows HijackThis v1.99.1? You did not update it to the beta version from Trend Micro did you?

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Turn off TeaTimer until you are done:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
Please delete any tools we downloaded for the fix, the exception if ATF-Cleaner, you may keep that nice small tool if you wish.
