Socket 11004 Error

With a new installation of Spybot S&D, I get a popup error message as follows when trying to update newest threat recognition rules on line. Using Firefox 2.0.0.3, XP HE with all updates, mvps Hosts file, Zone Alarm Free, Adblock, McAfee SiteAdvisor.

"Error retrieving info update file"

Any suggestions?

Sorry - should have read more in the forums. Zone Alarm was blocking Spybot. Removed the block - all works.

The primary causes of Socket Errors during the Spybot update are firewalls and proxy servers.

If you have a firewall:
You must authorize SpybotSD.exe to access the internet through your firewall. If you have a firewall and are not sure if that is the cause of the problem, you could (for a short period) disable the firewall and see if the updates work properly.
If you are sitting behind a proxy server:
Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced mode > Settings > Settings. About 2/3 of the way down the option tree there is a category "Web update". Check the last item in the list "Use proxy to connect to update server". A pop-up will come up were you can enter the information required.

Socket Error # 11004 is usually because your firewall is preventing SpybotSD.exe from accessing the internet. When you get a message from ZoneAlarm that Spybot - Search & Destroy is attempting to access the internet allow the access.
