View Full Version : Collected.11.B and I-Worm/Generic.BBY

My antivirus keeps finding the Collected.11.B and I-Worm/Generic.BBY on my computer. I have tried Vundofix, and AVG AV but they keep coming back. I am using a laptop, and have restarted in safe mode after many tries, and ran the Spybot S&D and nothing was found (which I am surprised, because it keeps finding stuff in regular mode).

I have run the Trend Micro, and it fixed some stuff, but it did not have an option to save a log. There are constant pop-ups from Spybot S&D regarding things that are trying to change my registry.

Here is the HJK log now that I have restarted back in regular windows mode:

I have run the Trend Micro, and it fixed some stuff, but it did not have an option to save a log.

I have ran a new scan but this time with Panda Active Scan, and here is the log.

Welcome to the forum, you are still infected with the Vundo trojan, let me give you this information first.
Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"
Since there is a class action involving this one, you may want to view this information:
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2007/030807-mystery-around-winfixer-slowly-unravels.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBUZHiKhsog

Please remove any Vundofix you have downloaded prior to this and start fresh with my instructions. Once you remove Vundo, we have more to do so post the information I request on a timely basis so we can kill it all.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

Thanks

Ok, I had quite a hard time, but here goes. I deleted my previous version of Vundofix and download the one you linked then ran it as per your request. At first, there was a file it said it could not delete (mljgf.dll), and upon restart, I closed it by accident instead of letting it delete it. I re-ran the vundofix like 2 or 3 times and it kept saying could not find anything, so I rebooted my computer again, and this time it found 3 new ones, but not the original one, so I added it to that list as you will see in the log.

I know I am still infected because as I was reading your post for the next step, AVG again popped up saying it found Collected.11.B. I also keep getting pop-ups from Spybot from all kinds of different .dll and stuff, and I keep clicking on no, but it just keeps popping up over and over, not letting me do anything, unless I just drag the window at the bottom of my screen and kind of ignore it while I do other stuff.

I have no clue what file I am supposed to upload to that uploadmalware site though... unless that is something you will tell me in your next reply.

Well, here is the Vundofix log and a new HJT log.

I am sorry, this stuff is not easy to remove. First you are running old versions of Java, which may be why you are infected, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
Here is what the fix is saying to you:

Java version is 1.5.0.6
Old versions of java are exploitable and should be removed.
Java version is 1.5.0.11Download the newest versaion of Java and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove programs.

Here is the Vundo infection that must be removed by Vundofix:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {970D022E-A884-4D2A-BB4A-EBC22D2FEBD2} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutuss.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtutuss - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\vtutuss.dll

To upload the files is simple, had they been uploaded Atribune would probably have added them to the fix by now. Here is the link:
http://www.uploadmalware.com here are the files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutuss.dll
You may need to enabled hidden files and folders to see them:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
Space for six files is allocated and you only need two, Browse to the file until it is in that box, give the basic information required and click send files. If you do not know how to do this, ask someone with more computer experience to help.

Once that is done, try the fix again, you know the files you need to see found and deleted now. If you can not delete them, turn the computer off and try again tomorrow when hopefully Atribune will have had time to add them.

Once those items "Has been deleted" post the Vundofix log and a new HJT log.

Thanks

Ok, I purchased this computer 2 months ago... I was sure I had the latest version... anyhow you say to un-install using the add and remove program... but here is my question before I do this.

In the add/remove, there are 2 J2SE found (the 2 mentioned in the log) and also Java 2. Do I remove all 3 or just the 2 J2SE and then install the newest version?

Thx

Ok, I purchased this computer 2 months agoIf this computer is new, it should be under warranty and just about anything you do to it will invalidate the warranty? Are you sure you should not return it to where you bought it for warranty work?

If this does not apply, then do this:
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Once I see that list, I will know what is installed and be better able to advise you.

I should also say I have been helping folks since four AM EST and am about to shut down for the night. If it takes more than a few minutes to post this information, I will not see it until in the AM.

Thanks

Aouch, ok. I called Dell Canada and they have advised me that it will not invalidate or null my warrantee, all they would do is reformat it, so if there is a fix, to go ahead and do it.

I will do what you have advised and post, and see you in the AM.

Thx,

rozybear1

By the way, I keep getting an error message everytime I start up my computer...
RUNDLL
error loading: C:\WINDOWS\system322\lxhlgmkj.dll
If it was deleted by Vundofix, I cannot do a restore as I had deleted the backup before I realised I had this problem, and before I started this post.

Thx

Good morning, it is normal to get those missing .dll warnings, we still have work to do and that is the infection complaining as we remove it.

Your Uninstall list: I am looking for malware and security issues, a good chance for you to see stuff you may no longer need...your call.

I cannot do a restore as I had deleted the backup before I realised I had this problemUnderstand that the computer backs up everything so a restore would put anything bad back on the computer. I will give you instructions to clean those files as soon as we have a clean computer.

Download Manager 2.3.5 <<< if this is Download Express, see the link:

review of DL Managers

http://www.ijji.com/
ijji - Gunz <<< be carefull of "free" online games, they are going to get $$$ somehow at it is usually at your expense, adware and worse. My suggestion would be to purchase the game at the store or play online from safe sites.

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.0_01
Here is your Java problem, one version is VERY old, and all three are outdated.
Start > Control Panel > Java Console (little coffee sup) Updates Tab and then update. Once you get the newest version, then go back to Add Remove programs and remove ALL old versions.

SearchAssist <<< do you know what this is? Google send me to McAfee and McAfee says it is:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_130163.htm If this is the case, it needs to be uninstalled.

Viewpoint Media Player (Remove Only) <<< if this is on the computer then read this information:
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.

I can not point at anything I know is bad, I just hope you know what you have installed is safe.

Take care of the Java issues right away, once the newest version is the only one installed, give Vundofix another try. Post the Vundofix report and a new HJT log.

Thanks...Phil

By “I cannot do a restore” comment, I meant from the vundofix restore folder, I deleted it all… Also, not long after I started having this problem, I turned off the restore points to make sure I would not try to restore back some bad stuff.

Yes, the download Manager was the Download Express from Gamespot. I removed it. I knew that they could download spywares, but I needed it to download WoW originally in my times of beta before the game came out, and have just kept it when I re-installed my stuff on this computer from my old on. I also un-installed all 3 Java programs and installed the new one as per your instructions. I have also removed SearchAssist as I have no clue what it is, and Viewpoint Media Player. Unfortunately, I cannot say that I know everything that is installed on my computer. I usually try to un-install what I don't know, but sometimes, I am not sure if it is needed or not, so I leave something that maybe would need to be removed.

Some of those programs, as ijji and ijji - Gunz are my son's, he plays those alot. I have had it for years on my other computer, and never really had a problem.

I try to delete spywares regularly using ad-aware.

By the way, I also removed Nero thought it might not have been necessary. I believe this is where all my problems started though. I used to have an older version of Nero a long time ago, but could not find my CD anymore, and I wanted to create some VCD’s for my son, so I searched for Nero, and when I was ready to download the free trial version, it re-directed me to this other site asking for $30 US, I thought it was for the full version, so I figured why not… it accepted PayPal, so this is how I paid for it, and as soon as the payment was made, I realized right away that I had just been had as it said I had just made a payment to Clickbank and re-directed me to THEIR site to download Nero. I still downloaded from their site as I figured I paid, I might as well now… I just never expected it to include a virus. I was naďve…

Anyhow, I re-booted my computer after doing all this as some of the un-installed required it, and now I seem to be having a new problem, I got a pop up from AVG with the following message:

Threat Detected!
While opening file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ucywqolw.dll
Trojan horse Generic3.UUB

By the way, I did upload the 2 files you asked me too to that site, and I had done a vundofix right after, and it still did not find them. I had to manually add them.

Ok, so now the Vundofix and HJK, and again upon restart I got the same Threat Detected! Message.

Thanks for the feedback, let's see if we can finish like this.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

4) Turn off TeaTimer, it will block changes we must make:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(if you know why the first item is there, you may leave it)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\lxhlgmkj.dll <<< delete that file
C:\Program Files\Download Manager\DLM.exe <<< delete that file (take a look, you might delete the folder also)

7) Use the instructions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, delete or at least quarantine anything it finds, save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

8) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Post the AVG Anti-Spyware scan report and a new HJT log. Add any comments you think will help.

Thanks

I'm stuck on this step.

I have AVG version 7.5.463 and I can't figure out how to deactivate the Resident Shield. I don't see any change state, I don't even see the resident shield option...

Here is information from another source, the Resident Shield will likely block you from removing stuff which is malware. You realize you had a very infected computer. Look at this information and if you can't figure it out from it, then uninstall the program.

Now I feel like an idiot... I did not realise you had said "Anti-Spyware"... I was thinking Anti-Virus. As soon as I saw "with an 'S'" I realised I was looking at the wrong thing.

Ok, I will follow-up the rest of the instruction and post when done.

I just want to make sure before I do something I will regret whether it is safe or not.

I deleted all the HJK files you told me to delete, I opened up the explore and proceeded to delete the files you mentioned, but then I got a pop up saying.

Windows Internet Explorer
NOTICE: You have not completed the scan. If your computer has errors in the registry database or file system, it could cause unpredictable or erratic behavior, freezes, crashes.

SysProtect can perform a quick and completely FREE scan or your system for errors.

Would you like to download SysProtect to scan for and, if found, correct any registry problems now (recommended)?
Ok Cancel.

I clicked the X to close as I figured it must be part of that winfix ect... problem with continually popping up windows asking to download some FREE software to protect when it really infects your system, but then an Iexplorer window opened up titled:
Add/Remove Programs and it had the following message.

When you click the "Next" button you will see a grey download box like the one shown Below

When this box appears, click "Open" to scan for errors.

It then has a picture of that grey box.

I figured it was indeed one of their ploy... the other pop-up also reappeared asking to download SysProtect... but I figured before I suspect the worse, maybe I should ask you just to make sure it is not part of HJK removal. You did not mentioned those in your steps, so I am assuming my apprehension is correct... but you never know... I'm not an expert after all =P

That is all the same junk:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=SysProtect+&btnG=Google+Search
I hope you did not allow more junk to download. Please follow those instructions and post the information I asked for so I can see where we are at.

Thank you

I want to start by thanking you for spending your Saturday to help me... it is very appreciated.

You seemed to be offline, so I figured my suspicions were right, and I clicked X to close it all and I started by un-installing the AVG Anti Spyware, then redownload it as per the link you posted.

It is now doing a scan, so I will post all the results you requested in a few min when everything is done.

Thank you

I still get pop-ups from unwated sites (well, 1 in particular, a music download site)... but I feel like we are getting close to getting this resolved.

Thx

By the way, the 2 files you told me to delete from the explorer window were already gone when I looked for them. I deleted the whole Download Manager folder as it seemed empty anyhow.

You still have the Vundo infection:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E055DA5A-610E-4A4A-8324-44813587DBE1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: awvtq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrintDrive] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhfkiplj.dll",setvm
Then this item is morphing back because it is not all removed.

Try Vundo fix again, as soon as it shows all files deleted, including this one: awvtq.dll

Then do this:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E055DA5A-610E-4A4A-8324-44813587DBE1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrintDrive] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhfkiplj.dll",setvm
O20 - Winlogon Notify: awvtq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhfkiplj.dll <<< delete that file

Post a HJT log.

Thanks

awvtq.dll was already in the Vundo list, and

O20 - Winlogon Notify: awvtq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvtq.dll

was not in the HJT list, and

C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhfkiplj.dll
was not in the folder.

I still think I'm infected though, so here are the fresh logs and I will wait for your next reply.

I promissed my son I would take him to the movies, so I will get back around 3pm EST or so, so if you have others to help, no rush for my post until then.

This last HJT appears clean of Vundo, tell me why you think you are still infected.

Thanks

If I am clean... I am really happy. The only reason I thought I might still be infected is because I noticed that most of the time, the files you asked me to get HJT to delete had O2 - BHO: (no name) - then something... so when I saw O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll... I thought it might be another infected file.

=)

Before closing this post... I'd also like to ask you one (or 2) question(s). Do you think I am right in thinking it is the Nero episode that infected me? If so, all the files that I put on VCD for my son (about 12 CDs), should I throw them out and get all the files over again and redo them all? My son would use view them on his computer's CD Rom (as he does not have a DVD Rom), and I don't want to take a chance at infecting it.

and P.S. With my problem with the trojan Horse Generic3.UUB, should I open up a new post for that in a different section of the forums or can you help with that too? Cause I just rebooted my computer, and I got 3 pop-ups of it being found in 3 different .dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\isputskk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\osntmrcb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pjqxtvsj.dll

Thx

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll
That's the line marker for Spybot S&D. I have never figured out why HJT can't find the name, just another HJT quirk.
If it helps, this little tool: http://www.castlecops.com/CLSID.html will search the Class Identification number. In this case when I enter:
53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F it returns this information:
(no name) {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} L BHO SDhelper.dll SpyBot Search&Destroy
Try it out on another number, and you will be on your way to becoming a malware remover...lol

thinking it is the Nero episode that infected me?
http://www.nero.com/enu/index.html
I can't really say, one of the problems with programs that let you download, is that the program can be very safe as are most of the PwP type programs, the issues is are the files kids are sharing infected? Also...are the files they are sharing illegal?
You may be able to have your antivirus program search the files on the CD to find out if they are infected or not.

I can say you did not get the Vundo infection that way, that generally comes via an exploint in a program like Java that is out of date and the hackers know it. It does not take much to get infected anymore.
This >>> Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.0_01 is likely why you got the vundo infection.

What program is tell ing you this?

I got 3 pop-ups of it being found in 3 different .dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\isputskk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\osntmrcb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pjqxtvsj.dll

Use this tool to Delete all three of those:
How to use the Delete on Reboot tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb
Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: (enter the complete file here such as: C:\WINDOWS\system32\isputskk.dll) and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now. You may add all three before you tell it to remove the files.
Post a new HJT log and tell me how things are running. They may have been files left from the infection.

Thanks

Did I miss any (not yet deleted)?
Basically, it seemed clean for a whole 5 minutes then I got re-infected somehow? I had not deleted the backup files, could this be how I got re-infected?

Some of these files are valid, the ones in red are valid files, careful what you do.

Well, we appear to be making no progess with this infection. It is important that you follow the directions exactly and in the numbered order. If you can not follow a direction, I need to know about it.

1) Much of the stuff that is showing now had been removed and the only thing I have seen do that is TeaTimer. Please start by uninstalling Spybot in Add Remove Programs:
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4

2) Now follow these directions to turn of the guard feature in AVG-AntiSpyware:
AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield - Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) These instruction must be followed, you must be able to see the bad files.
How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Download Manager\ <<< delete that folder

C:\WINDOWS\system32\lxhlgmkj.dll <<< delete that file

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

7) Please download VirtumundoBeGone:
http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools/VirtumundoBeGone.exe
* Save it to the Desktop
* Close all running programs (including your Internet Browser)
* Double-click VirtumundoBeGone.exe on the Desktop
* Follow the directions as indicated

This program may generate a "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" which is an expected/necessary part of the process.
Do not be concerned.
Just reboot if your system "jams".

To confirm successful deletion, and determine if there are any additional problems, please post the VirtumundoBeGone log VBG.txt. It is found on the Desktop.

Restart the computer and post the VBG.txt from VirtumundoBeGone and a new HJT log.

DO NOT reinstall Spybot yet.

Thanks

I had followed all the instructions in order, but in the section on how to disactivate the teatimer, it also said to re-activate once done for my own protection... so once you told me I was clean, I reactivated it... and this is when I got those files back.

Ok, now here goes.

1) done

2) done

3) done

4) I have "fixed" all these from HJT

6) done

7) done, took a whole 2 seconds, no "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" or reboot, it just opened up the log right away.

Rebooted, and here are the logs for VBG and a new HJT log.

I did not reinstall Spybot yet, to tell you the truth, I did not even have it until a few days before I posted on this site (I don't even really know how to use it - what to allow, what to deny)... I had read a post regarding Collected.11.B saying we should have it... then after more reading and searching, I found this site.

Thanks for the feedback, it will not be the first time I have had to uninstall Spybot because of TeaTimer. Spybot is a great program, but I prefer SpywareGuard which is also freeware and does the same job, to TeaTimer myself. Let's see how you did.
This HJT log looks clean of malware:bigthumb:

I keep looking at this program: C:\Program Files\Personal Vault\VaultClientSRV.exe
It looks like a valid program, if you do not know it is there, let me know.

Sympatico Security Advisor <<< do you use that program? See this link:
https://securityservices.sympatico.ca/display.do?jsp=/jsp/services/download-instructions.jsp

Note: Before installing our Anti-Virus or Firewall software, it is strongly recommended that you remove any existing Anti-Virus and Firewall software from your computer.

Here is more of it:O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StandardInstall] iexplore.exe file://C:/WINDOWS/system32/ClientSyncLoader.en_US.htm?https;activation.sympatico.ca:443/wizlet/SympaticoWebflow/loadSyncPrepare.do;restart=true

I will post links from experts with advice, once you have reviewed the information if you have questions posted them.
I am not sure what is running with that Bell Program. What you want to be sure of is that you are running one good anti-virus program (AVG is a good freeware program) one firewall (I would not rely on the Windows SP2 firewall) and at least one Spyware program running in realtime. AVG Anti-Spyware is a good one but it gives no realtime protection after the trial. If I have posted any of this information before, forgive me, it has been a long day.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Hehe... PersonalVault and Sympatico are programs that I do use. I work for Sympatico which is one of the biggest ISP in Ontario/Quebec. It is a branch of Bell Canada (this is who I actually work for, as a High Speed provisioner for Sympatico). Personal Vault is a program that helps you backup some files and pictures and stuff online on a secure website instead of on CDs... and can be shared with other users if wanted too...

Thank you for your help, it is so much appreciated, I know you spent most of your Saturday helping me, and it is very very VERY appreciated.

Thx, Roz

Hi Roz, and you are certainly welcome, but I actually have about 15 active repairs working right now. There is nothing wrong with those programs, my advice will be repeated in the links I provided. You want to see what Bell is providing you. If they provide you antivirus protection then uninstall the AVG Anti-Virus program:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/03/AR2005120300087.html
http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/2003/s1407/38s07/38s07.asp

Same thing with the firewall, if they supply one, then uninstall any others you are running and that includes turning off the SP2 firewall if it is enabled. Even though the jury is still out on how many active spyware programs to run, I personally suggest only one. This does not include on demand scanners like Spybot/Ad-aware, etc. that you start/scan and turn off.

Safe surfing...Phil

Actually, Bell does provide me with an anti-virus, but the license would not allow me to re-install it on my new computer when I got it, saying it was not the right computer and too many licences already running, so I had to unsubscribe to it, then wait a while and resubscribe, so as soon as I get the CD for the newer version, I am getting rid of AVG, AVG was just a band-aid while waiting for Sympatico's (MSN Premium with AV and AS and Firewall all included) to get activated again. I have not yet checked the links yet, but I will as soon as I have a chance...

I assumed you had lots of others on the go as you sometimes took a while to get back to me... =)

I know it is certainly appreciated. Not many volunteers would work on a weekend I'm sure

Sounds like you know what you are doing now. Most volunteers also help at other forums, as do I. I used to be quicker but nine months ago I had to drive to the ER to pick of a stent for a blocked fuel line and since then my doctor insists I spend some of my day outside on my bicycle. I just had number 65 on 4/19 and hope to be around to help for a while yet, so I have to pace myself:laugh:

Thanks...enjoyed working with you...Phil

You know, as much as I'd love to live in Florida with the warth, the sun, the beaches and mostly those boats in the marina... I think I would still chose Ottawa over it... no tornado, no earthquakes, less guns :p:

Thanks a million for all your help, as frustrated as I sometimes found it (I'm French, and I sometimes had to read some instructions 3 or 4 times before really understanding what you were asking of me), I truly enjoyed your help.

Take care, and keep that bike active... I still gotta get mine back in working condition as it spent the winter outside burried in snow ;)

As much as I enjoyed "talking" to you, I hope I won't have to come back to this site.

Hehe... I just realised what you meant by "I just had number 65 on 4/19" I had to re-read it a few times...
