View Full Version : Zlob.PrivateVideo detected

No symptoms of malware, but Spybot S&D keeps detecting "Zlob.PrivateVideo". It can be removed but then appears again the next time I scan after rebooting.

Windows XP SP2, I've been using AVG AntiVirus free, have AdAware and Spybot (AdAware doesn't detect anything), and free ZoneAlarm firewall. Have MSIE 7 installed, but use Firefox for browsing usually.

I scanned using the online Trend Micro Housecall Virus Scan which didn't give the option to save a log file, but all it detected were cookies.

Welcome to the forum, I notice that item was added to the Spybot database here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/updatehistory/index.html
2007-04-11 <<< are you using the newest version of Spybot and the newest updates?

This is also normally part of a Smitfraud infection which is hidden from HJT. If you wish to check for that infection, follow these instructions:

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions:

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

I can report that I see an out of date Java Program: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

Restart the computer and post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log.

Thanks

Thanks for the prompt response. I am using the most recent Spybot update, just been a bit lax with the scanning lately, I'm afraid.

I've uninstalled the Java environment - only installed it to run programs from a course I've now finished.

I did a general search of the C drive for a process.exe and couldn't find anything openly called that. Is that more/less suspicious? There was a qprocess.exe which seems to be part of SP2.

You misunderstood something there, Process.exe is a part of Smitfraudfix, it will not work without it. That was a warning for you to allow it in the event your antivirus program tried to block it.

There is no evidence of Smitfraud in that report, you are clean of that infection. Let's do this:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(if you want those four items in the Trusted Zone, you may leave them)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

run cleanmgr

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Sorry, I've done all that and I still have a Zlob.PrivateVideo detection that comes back whenever I reboot.

No symptoms of malware, but Spybot S&D keeps detecting "Zlob.PrivateVideo". It can be removed but then appears again the next time I scan after rebooting.Try posting it in the Spybot forum since it is supposed to be removing the item. See what they have to say. Link me to that topic please so I can watch also.

Thanks

You can also click on Help > Tutorial > Exclude > Choosing what not to scan > choose the one that applies and follow the directions. I have to do that with Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.FirewallDisableNotify because I choose to run another firewall other than Windows SP2 firewall and Spybot picks up the fact it is disabled.

Thanks
