Smitfraud-c toolbar888 Help Needed

[fasterisbetter]

I have read many of the forum posts and gotten as far as running Hijackthis, updating and deleting old versions of Java and running Vundofox a few times (on the 3rd time it came up clean, the log is from the 2nd time). The logs are posted below.

I can certainly just follow instructions in other posts but am not sure if each case is unique. Please advise and thanks for any help.

I understand, I know how I would be if one of my computer got infected. It looks like you got most of it, there is one item that will cause problems, let's clean a little and remove it, then see how you are running.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

(very important that this file is deleted)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\chawvhwq.dll <<< delete that file

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, let me know how the computer is running.

The one comom is that both say [PrintDrive]

Make sure all files and folders are enabled or you will not see it.
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

It is very important that you go straight to the file, as soon as you remove it with HJT when the process is stopped from running.
As soon as you delete it, restart the computer and look for any item with the O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrintDrive] and run through the process with the new file if there. Then post a new log. If that does not kill it, we will have to find a tool that will do it.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jmsvvwol.dll <<< delete that file

I found the file but when I hit delete it throws an access denied popup which includes the common "Make sure the disk is not full etc. verbiage.

I have tried to learn what you pros are looking for in the HJT log files and think (please let it be so) that the issue is resolved? I ran Vundofix until it came up clean (2x including a reboot to get one file). After this I ran HJT and looked in the log for any strange .dll files. There were none.

Is this the end of the process? What changed, did Vundofix "learn" overnight?

Thanks for returning your information. Keep in mind I came in in the middle of this movie instead of at the beginning, I am trying to help, but you removed a lot of stuff before I ever saw a log.

If Windows tells you that you can not remove a file you know is bad, you can always boot to safe mode and delete it when it is not running:

I would like you to look to see if it is still there. If it is, follow these instructions:

Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\jmsvvwol.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.

If the file is gone, as it is in the HJT log, then move on to the next instruction.

Please follow the instructions in this link to download, install, update and run AVG Anti-Spyware. Delete or at least quarantine anything it finds and post the scan results for me to view.

Just to respond to your last post, that I did not see, the hackers are constantly changing their junk to keep us from being able to remove it. Some stuff is so bad, only a reformat takes care of the issues and some of the rootkits are so dangerous that the computer can not be trusted again without a reformat. In your case, the infection is all about the $$$.
If you read the links I provided, you should know they belong in jail and for a long time. Having said this, if your computer is back to normal, you can ignore the instructions to run the AVG Anti-Spyware scan, unless you want a good final check for malware. your call.

The jsmvvwol.dll file is gone and the AVG complete scan came up completely clean. Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.

Anyone who sits around creating this crap definitely deserves some jail time. I hope they get it.

Sounds good:bigthumb: let's do this now: System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
