sorry something else i failed to mention is that when i switch my computer on and log into my account, it logs in and just freezez but i amstill able to move the mouse cursor, i then have to press ctrl alt del to restart the computer and before it allows me to restart i have to end programs and click end now, those programs are something called cftmon.exe and explorer.exe. after it restarts i can log in and it isn't frozen but problems mentioned above still persist

Welcome to the forum, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you are very infected with some nasty backdoor trojans, have a look at what I could identify:
http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2006-080315-1729-99&tabid=1
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojsrchspya.html
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100454.htm

For your security and safety, I need to give you this information:
A Backdoor is a software program that gives an attacker unauthorized access to a machine and the means for remotely controlling the machine without the user's knowledge. A Backdoor compromises system integrity by making changes to the system that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes unknown to the user.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Though the Trojans has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

Thanks

hi pskelley

thanks for your response, basically what happend was a day or two after i posted my msg, i would would switch my computer on and it would bring up a screen that gave me the option to select safe mode among others, and after i selected the option it would restart my computer, so i was unable to do anything with my computer.

today a friend has reformated my computer, and he tried to get my infomation off my hardrive but was unsuccesful so i have lost all my data, which is a pain.

could you please let me know what virus programs to download so this dos't happen again, it would be much appreciated

thanks

sorry another thing, after reformating that means that my computer is basically new yes, so there is no chance of the same virus still being on my computer

Thanks for getting back to me, if you did a reformat, your computer should be clean. If you would like to post a new HJT log for me to check, that would be fine. I suppose one could always load an infected program?

I will post links from experts, see if that answers your questions. I personally suggest only freeware programs and let the owers make decisions about what to pay for. I suggest you also do a little googling for information about programs.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=review+antivirus+programs&btnG=Google+Search
I am, however, convinced that the program matters only as much as the person who is supposed to keep it undated and run as suggested. Here are your links from experts:

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
