Malware problems - Please Help

Hi,

My PC was infected with a virus last week. Since then I have been trying to remove it without any success. The problem I am having is that whenever I open Internet Explorer, other windows open with various websites. I have tried using spybot to resolve the issue, it finds various problems (ie. smitfraudCtoolber 888, advertising.com, adviva, statcounter etc). Spybot fixes these problems, but after i reboot or if i open internet explorer, spybot again finds the same problems.

I have followed your instructions, and have attached 1) CA online virus scan report and 2) hijackthis log after using spybot in safe mode.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06 <<< Java is out of date, download the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add remove programs.

2) This looks like a Vundo infection, tough to remove. Please return to here: C:\Program Files\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe <<< rename HJT.exe, call it Mani.exe or whatever you wish.

3) This log is not run in safe mode is it? Make sure all logs are in normal mode unless I request otherwise.

4) Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Restart the computer and post the uninstall list and a new HJT log. We should be able to see Vundo if it is there.

1) I have uninstalled old version of java and installed the new version as you suggested.

2) I have renamed the hijackthis.exe to mani.exe

3) I have attached teh uninstall list and the new HJT log as suggested. Please note that before I recieved your reply, after reading several listings on this forum I downloaded and ran Vundo fix. It found 6/7 .dll files in system32 folder which it has removed.

Thanks for the feedback and the information, please understand that if you are going to do your own repair, there is no need to post a topic, we do not need the work and have more than we can do.

The only thing I see in this log is this dead line:

Which you may remove with HJT.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
