Hello,

Like an idiot, I managed to acquire lots of little nasties on my computer recently. I have read some posts on here, and I'd like to get your opinion if possible. Any information you can provide would be extremely appreciated!

To this point, I actually ran many scans in safe mode until my system was "clean." These scans included Ad-Aware SE Personal, AVG Anti-spyware, CWShredder, Norton Antivirus, Spy Sweeper, Spybot S&D, Windows Defender, and XoftSpySE. When coming back from safe mode, the problem resurfaced (of course).

I installed and ran SmitfraudFix as per the instructions on another post. Here are the results of that scan:

All advice given is taken at own risk.

Smitfraudfix has found the infection, please follow these instructions to remove it:

1) Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

2) Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection

3) Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Post the C:\rapport.txt from Smitfraudfix, the uninstall list and a new HJT log. Add any comments you think will help.

When I attempt to open SmitfraudFix.cmd, it gives me an error message stating "restart.exe file missing! Unzip all the archive in a folder." I previously used fixpath2, because the original download did not function. It worked once, but now it's not. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Since you know the fix worked the first time, I suggest you just delete it and download it again. Usually the file we have problems with the antivirus program blocking is process.exe that the fix will not run without.

Thanks for your reply.

I followed the instructions exactly as written. I was not prompted to replace wininet.dll. Below you'll find the C:\rapport.txt, the uninstall list, and the new HJT log text, respectively. The new behavior of the computer is for WinPatrol to ask if I want to accept that a change has been made to my internet explorer start page. The previous popups of bpvol.dll and Norton informing me of infection with TrojanDownloader:Win32/Zlob no longer appear. Thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback, and good job:bigthumb: The only time the wininet.dll has to be replaced is if it was infected also, good that it was not.

This item is showing your updater is supposed to be running but it is out of date as it your Java program.

I suggest since it is buggy anyway, you turn it off and update Java manaully.

AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <<< of little benefit unless you own it once the trial is over. You have it runing, if you wish to keep the scanner, disable it in services and turn it completely off to save the resourses it uses while running.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
