Hi!! I'm having the same problems as Eldrin did on another post:

-- C:\a.bat identified at startup, regardless of #times cleaned.
-- Difficulty reaching many internet sites on first try.
-- Windows Security Center or components thereof being disabled.

I also have noticed that my computer (especially when opening Msn Messenger) runs slower and that when I'm opening a web site, not all of the pictures in it opens on first try, I have to refresh the site in order to see them all.

This problem started after downloading a zip file from Ares (won't do it again, learned my lesson!) and when opening the executable, my NOD32 found the virus... and from there on the problems started. I suspect of 2 processes which I don't remember seeing on my computer: avg23.exe and antiwarezz.exe , both of them are in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder.

I already did a full system scan with NOD32 and it won't find any virus at all.

My Windows XP is in Spanish (since I'm in Mexico) but I would really appreciate if you helped me!! Here's my HijackThis log:

Welcome to the forum, if you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, please do this:

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Turn off Spyware Doctor, it may block the changes we must back.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Micosoft Data Core stuff] antiwarezz.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Service Agent] avg23.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Micosoft Data Core stuff] antiwarezz.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Service Agent] avg23.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Service Agent] avg23.exe
O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

(you will need to search for avg23.exe but it will probably be in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder)

avg23.exe <<< delete that file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\antiwarezz.exe <<< delete that file

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running.

Thanks

tashi
