View Full Version : Spybot crashes after latest update

I updated Spybot earlier today and then ran a scan. It crashed about 1/3 way through the scan. I ran it again and watched carefully. I had to run it several times before I could catch what file it was crashing on. When I did, I then excluded the three files and ran another scan which completed just fine with nothing found.

It is crashing on the three DyFuCA entries. I went to Panda and Symantec and read all about DyFuCa which I was sure I didn't have but I checked the registry for the entries it makes and I have none of them.

Spybot has had some other problems on this computer which is slightly over one year old. But Spybot was running just fine a few days ago when I did a scan.

Dell Dimension XPS 600
Pentium 4 3.8GhZ hyperthreading
XP Pro SP2

Last year, Spybot suddenly slowed down to a crawl when scanning. I gave up trying to figure out what was causing it. I learned only after I uninstalled Kaspersky 2006 with the major service update. That is what did it. The original KAV 2006 did not cause a slow down ...only the major update which was in November I think I recall. After I uninstalled it in December, I think it was, Spybot went back to normal scanning speed.

I have no idea why it would be crashing on these files. I use Avira Personal Premium AV now and Spybot has been fine with it since early January.

Hello,

If you are running Spybot - Search & Destroy on a system that has Hyperthreading Technology (HTT) please read the following thread:

Spybot-S&D will not complete a scan?

Here is another post that might help:

Thank you, but the fix regarding manually setting affinity did not work.

The crashing is not like what was mostly reported in that long thread. It does NOT happen at random. The crashing is ONLY on the DyFuCA entries. The scan is very fast and never slows down. It just suddenly crashes. When I exclude the three DyFuCA files then the scan runs and completes very fast with no problems.

I do not run any real time scanners for adware/spyware or even, at the moment, for viruses. I do use ProcessGuard but have used it for years and it has never caused problems with Spybot. I am currently only using the on demand Avira Personal Premium edition scanner and do not have the real time scanner installed.

I see NO evidence of any malware infection. I've never had a malware infection and only one virus seven years ago. I ran a HijackThis scan just yesterday and it was clean.

Since this problem did not exist until the May 3 update, I still conclude this is most likely a problem with a faulty update and nothing to do with my computer or whether it is a hyperthreading Pentium 4, etc.

Hello,

The user 200spy has found a workaround. Please take a look here:

Our detectives should take a closer look on it.
