My laptop appears to have the bpmon.exe/zlob.codec spyware on it. Since getting the spyware I haven't been able to access the internet. So I was unable to do the on-line Anti Virus Scan as specified in your instructions. I can submit a log from SpyHunter in lieu of the on-line scan, please let me know.

Welcome to the forum, you do have a Smitfraud infection but it is not known cause connection issues? We will remove it and see what happens. No need to post any other scans unless I request them, just be sure you have read and understand the instructions:
"BEFORE you POST" Mandatory Steps Before Requesting Assistance
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.

Since I see the infection present, we will "Search" so we can see it all and then "Clean" it. Please post both scan reports.

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from from here then follow the directions carefully.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post both the C:\Report.txt from "Search" and "Clean" and a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running now.

Thanks

I see that the protection bar is gone from IE7 but I still cannot connect to the internet... The laptop was running wireless so I moved it so I could plug directly into the cable modem. Still nothing... I can't even ping yahoo.com

Thanks for returning your information, and it appears Smitfraudfix was able to clean that infection. The HJT log looks to be clean. I consider Spyhunter and whole group they are associated with questionable, so I have no wish to view results. If you have an interest, there is an open forum discussion concerning the Enigma Software Group, Inc here which is open for public viewing.

We can however run another scan looking for hidden malware and I will post those directions shortly.
Internet connection issues, is not something we do here, but I will suggest a few troubleshooting methods:

Give this a try: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

If you can get on, there is information here that might help:

Google has troubleshooting ideas:

Of course I suggest you contact your ISP, it may be something they need to help you with.

Here is a good free forum where they deal with this problem:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum14.html There are also some very knowledgeable folks here:

If you want to run a good scan, this is one I use. I suggest you follow the directions in the link, delete or at least quarantine anything it finds and post the scan report so I can take a look.
