View Full Version : big issue with trojan
Hi all, I have an issue with a trojan and a few bits and peices...
I have a virus affected in the file: mljhfee.dll
I have run spybot in safe mode.
I have run a vundofix and it does not detect anything
I have run a hijack this report and it will not remove the file
I cannot manually delete the file
My antivirus (Norton antivirus) cannot remove or even quarantine the file
I have deleted the hijack this and vundo fix backups.

It appears you have not read the above instructions? Let's talk for a moment, Shaba just cleaned your computer on 4/19/2007?
At the time he gave you instructions, did you bother to follow any of them? For one, he posted instructions for you to update your Java program, and you have not done that:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\ <<< still out of date. Let's start by reading the instructions he gave you at the end of the last topic here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=12924 <<< read those instructions and update your Java progam as instructed by Shaba.

then do this:
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
Post the uninstall list and a new HJT log showing your Java has been updated.
Keep this computer ofline as much as possible until we clean that Vundo infection you have.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, your anti-spyware programs, of which you may be causing conflictions running them at once, but you will have to discuss this with their technical support. We know to run only one antivirus program and one firewall, but the jury is still out on that issue. Since their function is to block changes, please turn them off when you run this fix.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"
Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

I have run vundofix twice before i posted this problem here, and it found nothing, but i will try again a few more times and post the results.
My antivirus software has detected the virus, but cannot remove it, so i will upload it as you request.

I have run vundofix 3 (5 in total) more times and it found nothing, thus no vundofix log to post.
I tried to upload the file mljhfee.dll to the link and all was ok, but when i clicked 'send file' this note came up:
"The file you tried to upload was 0 Bytes or something prevented it from being uploaded. If someone requested you upload the file please let them know."
This is the file that my antivirus has detected. problem is, i cannot get the antivirus prompt to dissapear, it says that it could not fix the file, i click ok, and it just reappears.

Regardless of if anything is located a log is still created, I need to see that log, please follow the directions.

Here are the infected files, run Vundofix until it finds them and removes them. You should turn off the Spyware programs, they may block the tool.

Open the link > Click the Browse Button > Browse to the file > C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mljhfee.dll Once it is in the white box, make sure you have supplied the other information required and Send File.
Once that file is uploaded assuming you have not been able to remove it using Vundofix as instructed, here is another method you may try.
* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
* You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
* When VundoFix re-opens,Click Scan for Vundo button.
* Once the scan is complete, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
* Copy&Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljhfee.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\eefhjlm.*
* Click Add Files and Click Close Window
* Click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Turn your computer back on.

PS> the version of vundoFix does not have a check box for run vundo fix as a task. rather, i rightclicked in the blank windo and clicked 'add file'
also, before removing i tried to upload the file on the malwareupload site, and again it didn't work. but vundofix has deleted it now anyway...

That's the one you were after, let's do this now:
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4FFADED8-CE19-4FC5-9547-7881FDB5D120} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljhfee.dll (file missing)
(your Spyware programs may block this removal)
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
That is all I see in the HJT log, so if you are back to normal, you are good to go. I suggest you contact tech support at the Spyware programs you are running and ask if they conflict with the other programs. I believe at some point it will be suggested that only one good program be run in realtime, we will see. You should remove any program we download for this cleanup, the exception would be ATF-Cleaner you just used, you may keep that nice little program if you wish.
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Thanks very much Pskelly, my system seems to be running great. i have rid myself of all spyware programs bar 1, so hopefully that will do the trick nicely.
I have also followed all your close out instructions so hopefully i should stay clean, i will run spybot every now and then.
