I have read the "before you post" thread and my computer will not finish the online virus scan...my computer will freeze up so I went to hijack per your instructions.
Whenever I try to use a search engine it redirects me to their own search engine or a porn site. I have run Norton, Spybot, and Webroot and I can't get rid of it! Here's my hijack log:

Hello Silverceladon and welcome to the Forums :)
Sorry for the delay, I noticed the post in the waiting room....
Download HijackThis to your desktop from here (http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/HijackThis.exe)
Create a new folder for HijackThis and move HijackThis.exe into it.
You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.
Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop -> ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
Restart your computer to the safe mode:
Restart your computer
Start tapping the F8 key when the computer restarts.
When the start menu opens, choose Safe mode
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Run a scan with Dr.Web CureIt Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
Once the short scan has finished, you should now mark the drives that you want to scan.
Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable
After the scan, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
Close Dr.Web Cureit.
Reboot the computer in Normal Mode,
Post the Cure-it report and a fresh HijackThis log

Run HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and check the box next to each of the entries I listed earlier (if you want to fix them all). Close all other windows and press Fix checked.
Then the real infection:
Please run a GMER Rootkit scan:
Download GMER's application from here:
http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip
Unzip it and start the GMER.exe
Click the Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.
Once done, click the Copy button.
This will copy the results to your clipboard.
Paste the results in your next reply.
Warning ! Please, do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.

I did what you say and fixed the previous entries...thanks-computer running faster now.
I ran the GMER but it would only get to a certain point then it would freeze up. I put in clipboard what it did before it would abort...here's the log...
um well, I have it but I can't copy it! I'm in clipboard and under edit the "copy" is not turned on. How do I do that? So sorry I'm such a computer idiot...:red:

Ok when you've finished the scan in GMER, click on "Copy" (in GMER's downright corner). Then log in here and start writing a reply, rightclick on the text field (with mouse) and choose "Paste" from the menu. The log should be pasted to your reply. If the log is huge you may need to use several replies.

This will program will start and scan your system.

I'm not using the other google search function. Everytime I run an online scanner it'll only do 1/2 of it before my internet shuts down. What it did say was that I have 7 viruses and 17 infected files but that was only 3% into the scan. I'm thinking I'll have to completely wipe out my whole computer and reinstall everything.
The virus is really weird. Sometimes when I google something it takes me to a porn page, some random other search engine I've never heard of, ebay, and tons of other things. It's not just google that's affected-it's also all of the other search engines I've tried-MSN and yahoo. No one else on here has had this problem?

You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.
Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.

Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch AVG Anti-Spyware is checked.
On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.

Hi there. I did both but I couldn't run the complete system scan with AVG. For some reason, again, it stops in the middle. I tried the Fast System Scan and was overjoyed that it did run the whole scan and it found something called Adware.Ipend...

I think I'm cured! I've done tons of searches and I'm not being redirected. So you know by looking at the log what caused it?

Yes ComboFix removed a few infections. One of those is a know redictor.

Here you go! Should I do a different virus protection? I use webroot and I have just uninstalled Norton-thinking that might be causing a problem finding the problem. Should I reinstall Norton or get something else?

I think that you can keep Norton if you have paid for it. You must have one antivirus and firewall installed. Otherwise you'll get infected again!!
One more thing.
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.
Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt with a fresh HijackThis log.

Here's the log...I ran Webroot earlier and it found a Trojan-downloader-ruin but it said it got rid of it. I didn't notice my computer running any different.

Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.
Then navigate to the files & folders via My Computer. :bigthumb:

I deleted what you told me to and emptied my recycle bin. I ran another webroot and it found the Trojan-downloader-ruin and sidesearch. FYI-I got a call from Bank of America and my one credit card I only use online was stolen-they're having a nice vacation in Mexico on me...(the bank reversed the charges :) Webroot doesn't tell me what files are infected only what they are named and gets rid of them for me...but they keep coming back.

I updated Norton and ran a full scan. It didn't find anything.
I updated and ran SpySweeper (Webroot) and it again found Trojan-downloader-ruin. That's all it tells me. It shows it got rid of it but you know how it goes.

Webroot is the only scanner finding it. This might be a false positive or just some qurantined file that is flagged. Your logs are looking clean...
You can remove the tools we used.
Now you can make your hidden files hidden again.
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Check "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.

Okay-do you feel confident that I can start using my credit card online again? That Trojan that has never sufaced before bothers me.
Do I install everything that you suggested? I think I"m going to uninstall my Norton because it makes my computer very slow. Is one of those installs a firewall?

You must have one firewall and one antivirus!!! This is very important!!
If you've uninstalled Norton:
You don't seem to have a third-party firewall (http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?p=56#56) installed. You must install one firewall.
It is possible that you're using the Windows XP firewall. That is of course better than nothing but I recommend that you install a more advanced firewall that gives more protection. Windows firewall doesn't eg protect your computer from inbound threats. This means that any malware on your computer is free to "phone home" for more instructions. Remember to use only one firewall at the same time. I'll give you a few alternatives if you want to install a third-party firewall:
