Dunno how we got the virus, but I'm thinking it was my son. Could not do an online virus scan, tried three times and it hung or crashed IE every time. Did the rest of the steps tho.
Here's the HijackThis log, but it's not from safe mode. Is that correct?

Welcome to the forum, just want to make sure you saw these instructions:
"BEFORE you POST" Mandatory Steps Before Requesting Assistance
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
I am wondering why you think this is Smirfraud? Do you have any symptoms to make you believe this? Smitfraud is mostly hidden and I see no signs, so your feedback is very important.
I have not seen this one before myself, here is the item:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\devenv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Mircosoft Windows Development Environment] devenv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Mircosoft Windows Development Environment] devenv.exe
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=devenv.exe&btnG=Google+Search
This can be a vaid item as you have read, but in this case I believe the hackers are using a valid files to keep us from idenifying it. Look at the spelling of Microsoft.
My scanners show it as bad, if you wish to scan it yourself before removing it, here are free online scans, post the results for me please:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
Once you are satisfied you are dealing with a trojan, then follow these directions carefully.
Thanks to andymanchesta and anyone else who helped with the fix.
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)
Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
Thanks

Yeah, not sure why I thought it was Smitfraud; probably because that seems to be the popular one around here. Anyway, ran the virus scan and it found that devenv.exe was indeed infected, but it couldn't clean it.
Ran SDFix, it says it deleted devenv.exe; here's the log.

OK, thanks for the feedback. I wanted to be sure you were not seeing something that would make us scan to make sure hidded Smitfraud is not present.
Looks like "word wrap" has gotten turned on under Format in Notepad, hard to work with the logs, but I may not need another?
Do you trust this item in your Trusted Zone?
>>> O15 - Trusted Zone: *.stumbleupon.com
If not, use HJT to remove it, your HJT log looks fine and if you are back to normal, I would say you are good to go.
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Yes, I do infact trust StumbleUpon (dead useful tool, never caused a problem before).
I am still getting popups for winantivirus pro and roo-tv and the like, so whatever we did didn't do it.
Anything else look dangerous at all?

OK, then you have a Vundo infection, it's tough to remove, so follow all directions carefully. Here is some informaton to get you started:
Since there is a class action involving this one, you may want to view this information:
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2007/030807-mystery-around-winfixer-slowly-unravels.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBUZHiKhsog

http://www.revenews.com/wayneporter/archives/adware-spyware-greynets/getting_the_fix_on_winfixer_aol_network_now/
Rename HijackThis.exe, call it MyWifeislivid.exe or whatever you wish. Turn word wrap off in notepad, restart the computer and post a new HJT log. We should be able to see the junk.
Thanks
SainterThom

Renamed it. And word wrap is turned off, btw.
I've run VundoFix a few times on a friend's advice, but it never seemed to clear anything up for me. :sigh:
Anyway, here's the log.

Thanks for returning the information, the junk has to be removed correctly or it just morphs and is put back, much is hidden. The vast majority of issues being posted now are about this crap. I sure wish the Federal people would lower the boom on the hackers. Vundofix is updated often by the creator, please delete any version you have on your computer and download it freash from the link I provide, then follow the directions carefully.
Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.
Here are the Vundofiles in the HJT log, there will be more hidden:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yayvwxx.dll
Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"
Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.
(this is important) If we send files the fix canb't kill to Atribune, he will add them so the fix can kill them.
If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit

As soon as all of the Vundo files have been deleted, then move to the next instructions:
SpybotSD TeaTimer will block the changes we must make, use these instructions and turn it off until we are done:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
(some files may be gone, removed by the fix, just don't miss any)
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Vundo is a nasty piece of crap and one of the hardest to clean. Only good thing is it's about trying to steal your $$$ via the purchase of rouge products, not a backdoor which is looking for information, credit card numbers, etc.
I see no Vundofix log? but the exact same stuff is there I pointed out in my instructions. You really need to read the iinstructions and follow them. Here are the files I see in the HJT log, but there may be more hidden:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstu.dllC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\yayvwxx.dll
You need to watch the Vundofix report for it to indicate it has deleted all files it finds. Look at the 020 items:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: igfxcui - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll <<< valid
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtstu - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstu.dll <<< Vundo
O20 - Winlogon Notify: WgaLogon - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WgaLogon.dll <<< valid
O20 - Winlogon Notify: yayvwxx - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\yayvwxx.dll <<< Vundo
Once they all say "has been deleted" then post the Vundofix log and a HJT log. We still have one item that is here to remove:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WindowsUpdate] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wcywiwbw.dll",realset
if this is not done correctly, it will morph and return the junk. Stay offline when not working on the problem.
Thanks
