View Full Version : Can't get rid of Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888

Hey guys,

I have run Spybot, Windowsdefender, Ad-Aware Personal, CWShreeder, Spywareblaster and after everytime i run Spybot and delete the Smitfraud it keeps coming back.

Welcome to Safer Networking, if you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, it appears you have missed some important instructions our administrator has posted at the top of the forum, especially this: "BEFORE you POST" Mandatory Steps Before Requesting Assistance http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please read and follow all instructions and post all required logs or reports, anything less will slow your process.
Use "Post Reply" to post the information in the instructions and stay in the same topic.

Since you have not posted the required online anti-virus scan, I have to assume you missed the above information. You may wait on that scan until I see you need it. You are infected but what you are doing is seeing a false positive in Spybot:

1) You have PurityScan/OIN adware, evidence of a Vundo infection (which may or may not be gone) you also have this exploit: C:\WINDOWS\retadpu2000373.exe and that big number may be stretching you HJT log, you may edit out the NUMBER ONLY if it appears in the log again.

I would like you to open notepad and click Format and make sure "Word Wrap" IS NOT checked.

2) You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly.

Please decide which you want to use and uninstall the other.

3) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

4) Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

5) Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the uninstall list, log from combofix, new HJT log and any comments you think will help.
