View Full Version : Smitfraud-C.CoreService: problematic popups

2007-05-15, 02:27
Hello,

I have followed all the steps in the sticky. I have recently been plagued with pop-ups that are disguised as system error messages... and my web browsers have been hijacked and continously show popups attempting to direct me to registry cleansing software.

I ran the e-Trust antivirus web scanner. Here are the results:

Scan Results: 53318 files scanned. 1 virus was detected.

File Infection Status Path
lb5.exe Win32/Tesllar.A cannot cure C:\WINDOWS\system32\smpi1\

After performing a S&D run and clearing all possible files under normal conditions (which resulted in the group "Smitfraud-C.CoreService" not able to be cleared), I performed a S&D run in safe mode and it appeared to eliminate all potential malware. However, the problem persists.

Here is the HTJ logfile.

Hi

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once the scan is complete, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
Copy&Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddayv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\xxyvvvt.dll

Click Add Files and Click Close Window
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.[/list]
