Socket Error #10053 when attempting to get updates

I am receiving the following error when attempting to get updates:

Error retrieving update info file!
Socket Error # 10053
Software caused connection abort.

I use a Proxy when I am at work, however, right now I am at home and do not use the Proxy at home. It is turned off in the browser and the Spybot settings for Web Updates is turned off.

I have gone into the Firewall settings (Control Panel / Windows Firewall) and put SpybotSD.exe in the Exceptions list.

I searched through many of the articles and did not find anything other than this forum which specifies the error 10053:

My concern is that I may have a similar problem. However, based on the last post by tashi, I am reluctant to follow the same steps that Frosty used to fix his problem. Do you have any advice at this point since I have not done any updates and would like your professional advice prior to making my next move?

It almost seems as if my laptop "thinks" I'm on the proxy when I'm not. I do use Secure Remote VPN to connect to work from home, however, that is turned off at the moment.

Thanks for any advice you might have.

PS - I did manually get the updates temporarily so that I am at least "safe" for the moment.
