I am having a hard time with removing a browser hijacker. I do not have pop ups but do have a problem with redirecting. I have ran adaware, spybot, ccleaner, and norton.

Here is my hijackthis log.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you. My husband says we could back up the computer but Id rather fix the problem.

I may have replied to this twice, if so please delete one. Thank you and sorry.

It seems to be all search engines. It redirects me to many different sites, here are a couple....btcar, stopzilla and toseekA.

I checked for updates with spybot and ran that in safe mode.

Here are my results from the eTrust Antivirus Web scanner. I did not delete the infected files.

Scan Results: 95430 files scanned. 2 viruses were detected.

Thanks for returning your information and the unformatted log. First let me say the items in the etrust scan are in your System Restore files, which we will purge before we are done. Just do not use System Restore or they would get back on your computer.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/PSIService.exe-16772.html

I see some junk that I believe should go and an out of date Java program that is dangerous, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
Update Java and then uninstall all old versions in Add Remove Programs.

I just do not see anything that should be causing your issues. It is possible we are dealing with a rootkit infection, so we will do a little searching and see what we find.

1) Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

2) Please download F-Secure BlackLight Beta:
https://europe.f-secure.com/exclude/blacklight/index.shtml

Save it to its own folder in the Desktop
Double-click blbeta.exe to run the program
Click : Scan
A list of all items found is created

The list is in the BlackLight folder on the Desktop, and named fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (xxxxxxx are numbers).

Please provide the log created by BlackLight in your next reply.

3) Follow the directions in this link to download, install, update ad run AVG Anti-Spyware. Make sure you delete or at least quarantine anything it finds and save that scan report.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

Restart the computer and post the uninstall list, the report from the BlackLight scan and the report from the AVG Anti-Spyware scan.

Thanks

Hello again. Can or should I get rid of the bleepingcomputer and the castlecops that was found in the hijackthis log? I was not aware they were there
Those are just links to information about this junk:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSIService.exe
Here is the Google on the junk:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=PSIService.exe+&btnG=Google+Search
Understand that the item was installed on purpose because someone installed another program without reading the EULA agreement. I provided you with information to help decide if you want it on your computer, but I can't make the decision for you.

You have a hidden rookit infection, review this tutorial so you will know what you are doing.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial124.html
This is the bad file you need to clean: c:\WINDOWS\system32\kdeku.exe

Post a new HJT log and let me know about any malware problems at that point.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback and returning the information, here is some information about this aol junk:
Viewpoint Media PlayerFor your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.

Let do a little cleaning:

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(first two are damamged and not working right if at all, dowload them again if you use them)

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: SpywareBlock Class - {0A87E45F-537A-40B4-B812-E2544C21A09F} - C:\Program Files\SpyCatcher 2006\SCActiveBlock.dll (file missing)
(next two are optional removal)
O2 - BHO: MorpheusToolbar BHO - {3F3714A1-89A4-46be-8AF3-D0C9D1FB03F9} - C:\Program Files\MorpheusBar\bar\1.bin\MORPHBAR.DLL
O3 - Toolbar: Morpheus Toolbar - {3F3714A9-89A4-46be-8AF3-D0C9D1FB03F9} - C:\Program Files\MorpheusBar\bar\1.bin\MORPHBAR.DLL

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

run cleanmgr

If you are back to normal, then I would say you are good to go:bigthumb:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Thanks alot again. I cleaned out my system and took care of all the unnecessary "junk". I will recommend this site to anyone I know with computer problems (which is almost everyone I think).

All is working well so I guess this issue is closed. (I hope)
