Hi,

I've been seeing recurring pop ups that attempts to link to 89.188.16.10 via IE7 and suspected that I was infected with Smitfraud-C.Toolbar 888. Therefore, I ran Sbybot a couple of times, both in normal and safe modes. While it didn't detect anything in safe mode, Smitfraud-C.Toolbar 888 kept turning up in normal mode. I've also been getting various other infections such as Astakiller, and SystemDoctor2006 which Spybot should have taken care of. I've ran the Online eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner and came up with:

"Virus scan finished. No viruses found."

I also ran Vundofix and found several files to be infected, but they were eventually deleted upon system restart.

Here is my Hijack This log:

Welcome to Safer Networking, "BEFORE you POST" Mandatory Steps Before Requesting Assistance
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.

I wish to make sure you read the above information so we are on the same page. If your issues are not resolved, I see evidence of a Vundo infection which can be hard to remove. If you still need help, please do this:

1) add/remove in the control panel.
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

2) C:\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe <<< rename HJT.exe, call it peepeelin.exe or whatever you wise. Restart the computer and post the uninstall list and a new HJT log. I will respond as soon as possible after that. If you have Vundofix on the computer, delete it. We need to download it fresh if we need it.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for responding to my post. I did follow the instructions mentioned in "BEFORE you POST" for my first post. In any case, I reran Spybot in safe mode again just to be sure, and it still turned up clean. But in Normal Mode it still had Smitfraud-C.Toolbar 888. As for the other infections, I saw that they were merely cookies, so I went ahead and deleted all the pertaining cookies in Firefox and they didn't turn up in my latest scan. (save for Smitfraud-C.Toolbar 888 of course) I also went ahead and deleted VundoFix. It's been two days now, and I haven't seen any pop ups, but I still want to make sure I'm in the green.

So here is my Uninstall List:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Smitfraud-C.Toolbar 888: read this >> http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=8668
Make sure you have the newest version of Spybot and that all data bases are updated and immunized.

You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Authentium\AntiVirus\dvpapi.exe

It looks like you managed to kill most Vundo, there is still one nasty and some cleanup left:

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {01931647-AB37-4563-8BF0-CB26255432DE} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mllml.dll (file missing)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: urqqqnn - urqqqnn.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\eedyuqpm.dll <<< delete that file

(if that one give any trouble, use this tool to kill it)
How to use the Delete on Reboot tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb

6) Use these instructions to run AVG Anti=Spyware, delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the scan report, a new HJT log and let me know how the computer is running.

Thanks

Uninstall list: You have a load of stuff, I don't know a lot of it but I see no obvious malware. You should know everything on that list. Look at this one:

Viewpoint Media Player
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge.

Hi, thanks for the feedback

I did as you said, and will post the new logs in this thread. In regards to having 2 antivirus programs, I wasn't aware that I had installed Authentium AntiVirus, and I can't seem to find uninstaller for this. I've deleted eedyuqpm.dll no problem on reboot, ran AVG Spyware, treated the nasties finally ran the ATF Cleaner and rebooted again.

Here are my latest AVG Spyware and HJT log reports:

You are sure welcome, looking at the AVG Anti-Spyware scan it looks like you are storing a lot of unnecessary cookies, You understand there is a cookie manager? Have a look at this information:
http://privacy.getnetwise.org/browsing/tools/firefox1/ffdisablecookies
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/psm/help_21/using_priv_help.html

I wasn't aware that I had installed Authentium AntiVirus, and I can't seem to find uninstaller for this.In your Add Remove programs is this: Authentium AntiVirus SDK - 2
No doubt that is the item, I suggest you try that first, it is always best to remove a program from there if possible. Give that a try and let me know how it goes. If you have not done so, it would be best to clean the System Restore files to make sure no junk got backed up in them.
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam
I have valuable closing information for you so let me know if you are successful in removing the AV program.

Thanks

Hi again,

I've set my firefox to clean out the cookies once I have closed firefox, so hopefully that should fix my problem of having too many unnecessary cookies.

As for the AV program that keeps eluding me, well, I've found the folder with the link you gave me, C:\Program Files\Common Files\Authentium\ but when opening the add/remove program window, I couldn't find it anywhere on the list. So to double check again, I went back to hijackthis' uninstall manager and saw that it was there again. I've also followed your instruction on cleaning out my sys restore by turning it off, rebooting, and turning it back on again. Should I just delete the Authentium folder?

Also, I ran a last minute check with spybot to see if Smitfraud was gone for good, well apparently it still detected it again. It had one entry and was a registry key:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-776561741-162531612-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\aldd

I'm not using a tablet PC so I'm not sure why this keeps entry keeps popping up, this has been the same entry that popped up before. And to date, I haven't gotten anymore pop ups. Is there a way to fully remove this from my computer? Or is it harmless?

Sorry for the last minute post. Once again, your help is greatly appreciated.

This item: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-776561741-162531612-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\aldd
I believe it is just a leftover line in the registry, when malware is removed, it is impossible to guarantee all the registry entries will be removed with it. If you wish to edit it out of the registry, I can post a link to a good freeware editor and the instructions for using it, just let me know.

Let's remove the extra anti-virus program like this:

Safe mode tutorial if needed
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/safemode/

1) Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to DvpApi and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

2) Start HijackThis

Open the Misc Tools section

Open Process Manager

Highlite C:\Program Files\Common Files\Authentium\AntiVirus\dvpapi.exe

Click on "Kill Process"

3) Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Authentium\ <<< delete that folder

If you have any problems deleting it with these instructions, then use the tutorial I privided and boot to Safe Mode and delete that folder there.

Thanks
