Hi and welcome to the Board

I'm Blade and I am going to try to help you with your problem. Please take a note of five things.

I will start working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please download
VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4)
to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files,
click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing
Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer,
click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new
HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from
Click the Scan for Vundo button when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Hey blade!
Thanks for helping me out.
Sorry about the delay of my reply.
I'm having problems with the VundoFix software...
After it scans and I click Remove Vundo,
the screen goes blank (like you mentioned) but for hours
and does not seem to do anything at all.
I'll post my log file and another HijackThis log just in case!

VundoFix V6.4.1

Checking Java version...

Java version is 1.5.0.6
Old versions of java are exploitable and should be removed.

HJT in it's own folder
------------------------

Please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

The reason we do this is Hijackthis creates backup files just in case you'd need to restore one and we'll be cleaning out the temp files.

Disable Windows Defender's realtime protection temporarily.

Open Windows Defender
Click on
Tools

Click on
General Settings

Scroll down to
Real-time protection options

Uncheck
Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)

Click
Save

Exit the program.

Start hjt, click do a system scan only, check:

Please download the Killbox (http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip) © Option^Explicit.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.

Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

Select "Delete on Reboot".

Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\Windows\system32\tamvsipj.dll
C:\Windows\system32\jkhih.dll
C:\Windows\smanager.7.exe
C:\Windows\retadpu1000272.exe
C:\Windows\system32\ylfephpd.dll
C:\Windows\svchost.exe
C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\gebcaww.dll
C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\winmul32.dll

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here (http://www.eudaemonia.me.uk/downloads/Files/missingfilesetup.exe) to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

thanks for the advice Blade

I did as you mentioned... many symptoms upon reboot seemed to have disappeared.. and then my system became very sluggish and then the popups began to popup again.

Here is a fresh hjt log... any other suggestions?

Hi

Upload following files to Virustotal (http://www.virustotal.com) and post the results:
C:\Windows\system32\snmvtsvc.exe

Start hjt, click do a system scan only, check (if found):
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {15E6AC21-3DD7-49C1-B48A-66DAFF9755B5} - C:\Windows\System32\jkhih.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4B646AFB-9341-4330-8FD1-C32485AEE619} - C:\Windows\System32\rjnpguwa.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CD6789D8-DB78-4C6F-AE5D-B15F603775A2} - C:\Windows\System32\ctahpcee.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [setup] rundll32.exe "C:\Windows\system32\ltxhlxln.dll",realset
O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhih - C:\Windows\System32\jkhih.dll

Close browsers and other windows. Click fix checked.

Download ERUNT (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Registry-Tweak/Erunt-g.shtml)
Save it to your desktop. Run and install this program.

In the box that opens ONLY choose
System registry.

Then click OK.

Click save and then go to File > Exit.
This is so the registry can be restored to this point if we need it. It may take a minute. Just let it go until it's done.

Please try defragging your hard drive(s) and after that run Vundofix. If that doesn't work we need to take more complicate way.

Following instructions are plan B if Vundofix doesn't work after defragging. Read them thru and ask if something is unclear.

Print/save these instructions 'cos you won't be able to access them while in safe mode.

Make sure Windows defender realtime protection is still disabled before moving to hjt fixing part.

Start hjt, click do a system scan only, check:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {55DB983C-BDBF-426f-86F0-187B02DDA39B} - C:\Windows\system32\xseqftne.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6A8BA4E5-AD00-4F01-BA12-81F966B9C7A0} - C:\Windows\system32\jkhih.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WindowsUpdate] rundll32.exe "C:\Windows\system32\agbgukkv.dll",realset
O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhih - C:\Windows\system32\jkhih.dll (file missing)

Close all browsers and other windows before clicking 'Fix checked'.

Then reboot into safe mode.

Having hidden files visible search for following files and delete if found:
C:\Windows\system32\xseqftne.dll
C:\Windows\system32\agbgukkv.dll

There may be also other oddly named dlls like these two in C:\Windows\system32 folder which creation date is near present moment (28.5.2007 or newer). Delete those.

Then there are most likely other files which can identified by their names. Every Vundo dll may have files which names are vundo dll name backwardly written (creation time is 28.5.2007 or newer).
For example xseqftne.dll may have files which names begin with entfqesx like entfqesx.bak or entfqesx.ini.

After you have checked and deleted all these oddly named dlls and their backwardly written friends then it's time to reboot back into normal mode and wish that new hjt log shows up clean. :)

Well congrats, it appears your system is all clean Are you still noticing any problems? If not, it's time to secure your system to prevent against further intrusions.

THESE STEPS ARE VERY IMPORTANT

Let's reset system restore
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected. Please note you need Administrator Access to do clean the restore points.

A To disable the System Restore feature:

1. Click on the Start button.
2. Hover over the Computer option, right click on it and then click Properties.
3. On the left hand side, click Advanced Settings.
4. If asked to permit the action, click on Allow.
5. Click on the System Protection tab.
6. Uncheck any checkboxes listed for your hard drives.
7. Press OK.

B. Reboot.

C Turn ON System Restore.
Follow the steps like you did when disabling system restore but on step 6. check any checkboxes listed for your hard drives.

We need to re hide system files. To do so, please follow the steps below:
Double-click My Computer. Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options. Click the View tab.
Put a check by
Hide file extensions for known file types.
Under the
Hidden files
folder, select
Show hidden files and folders.
Check
Hide protected operating system files.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

UPDATING WINDOWS AND INTERNET EXPLORER

IMPORTANT: You Need to Update Windows and Internet Explorer to protect your computer from the malware that is around on the Internet. Please go to the windows update site (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) to get the critical updates.

If you are running Microsoft Office, or any portion thereof, go to the Microsoft's Office Update site and make sure you have at least all the critical updates installed (Free) Microsoft Office Update.

Make your Internet Explorer more secure

This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

The following are recommended third party programs that are designed to keep your computer clean. A link as well as a brief description is included with each item.

Download Spybot
Spybot is a scanner like adaware. It scans for spyware and other malicious programs. It is important to have both Adaware and Spybot on your computer because each program provides unique detection and pretection measures. Spybot has preventitive tools that stop programs from even installing on your computer.
To see how to set this up as well as more spybot features, see here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=43)
Spybot can be downloaded at this location (http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022-10122137.html?part=dl-spybot&subj=dl&tag=but)
Download SpywareBlaster
Spyware blaster is a program that stops known malicious activex controls from installing on your computer. It works by changing settings in your registry. It makes
kill bits
in the registry, so that certain activex controls can't install.
If you don't know what activex controls are, see here (http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/ActiveX_control.html)
You can download SpywareBlaster here here (http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=2859&file=11&evp=61b0e8ad41924a03c37615f4682b4cef)
SpywareBlaster tutorial (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial49.html)

Download iespyad
It puts many bad webpages on your restricted zones list. This means that you can still view the
bad
webpages, but the webpages cannot do certain things (such as use javascripts and cookies).
If you need help understanding how it works, there is a tutorial here (http://forums.neoplanet.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=6640)
Download it here (http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/res/ie-spyad.exe)

hosts file:
Every version of windows has a hosts file as part of them. In a very basic sense, they are used to locate webpages. We can customize a hosts file so that it blocks certain webpages. However, it can slow down certain computers. This is why using a hosts file is optional!!
Download it here (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm). Make sure you read the instructions on how to install the hosts file. There is a good tutorial here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial51.html)
If you decide to download the hosts file, the slowdown problems can usually be avoided by following these steps:
Click the start button (at the lower left hand corner of your screen) Click run In the dialog box, type services.msc hit enter, then locate dns client Highlight it, then double-click it. On the dropdown box, change the setting from automatic to manual. Click ok

Just a final reminder for you. I am trying to stress these two points.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!! Make sure you do this about every 1-2 weeks.
Make sure all of your security programs are up to date.
Run the spybot and adaware regularly. (Once or twice a week minimum.)
Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Stand up and be Counted.

NOW is the time you can start to hit back at the people who infected you.
http://images.malwarecomplaints.info/logo/MWC-logoplus4.gif (http://www.malwarecomplaints.info)
Please take the time to go and complain - that forum has a topic for your infection which is Vundo please post as a reply, you do not need to register to do so (but you can if you wish). It will also have a list of other places you can go to to register your complaint, depending on the country you are resident in. Please read the topics and complain, it is only with such complaints to goverment or government agances that something will get done.

Once again, please post and tell me how things are going with your system... problems etc.

Have a great day,
Blade :)
