I keep geeting weird sites being launched and ad-bars flash in front of sites I am trying to access. I have tried the following,

Spybot Search & Destroy: Still can't get rid of "Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888"
Lavasoft Ad-aware
Windows Defender
Spyware Blaster
CWShredder
ewido anti-malware

Ran all these in Safe Mode and then ran a full scan with Network Associates Virus Scan 8.0.0 followed by the Trend Micro Housecall and removed a bunch of stuff but the original problems remain. Pls help and thanks in advance!

You have a Vundo infection at least and it can be tough to remove, following the instructions exactly is you best chance of success. The is probably why you have the infection:

C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ <<< your Java program is VERY out of date, start by downloading the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove Programs.

C:\Documents and Settings\SAMI\Desktop\HijackThis.exe
Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
Once you get it moved, then rename HJT.exe, call it ghatiya.exe or whatever you wish.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit

Thanks for returning your information and you did a good job with the instructions:bigthumb: Let's do a little cleaning to make sure nothing is hiding on your computer.

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

3) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) Make sure AVG Anti-Spyware, is updated and then run it according to the directions in the following link. Delete or quarantine anything it finds and post the scan report.

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart your computer and post that scan report and a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running now.

I ran Spybot-Search & Destroy and again see two entries for Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888, is more cleanup needed?

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. You may rename HJT if you wish and remove any tools we donwloaded for the fix, the exception is ATF-Cleaner, you may keep that nice small tool if you wish.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Be sure you have the newest version of Spybot, that your data bases are up to date and that you are fully immunized. Then you may ignore that false positive.

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
