Hi there,

I'm a first-time "post"-er, but like many others on these forums I've been infected with the nasty Command Service issue that Spybot can find but never delete. I was able to find HiJack This and run it so here is the log:

Thank you,

The "sc delete cmdservice" didn't seem to find anything to delele, but the instructions for what to check and fix in HiJack This seemed to work very well. I was also able to reboot and then delete the additional files you had listed at the bottom of the previous post. most of them did exist on my system.

I don't seem to be getting any more annoying pop ups right now. here's the latest log from HiJack This:

I'm going to post the the log from running the Scan w/Panda Software in the next post as the post was too long...

The scan from Panda software is double the size of the allowable log (that cant' be a good sign). I think I should run the Trend software or perhaps Spybot and clean things up before running Panda again. What do you think?

You could edit out items if they are in system restore (C:\System Volume Information) , Norton's quarantine folder or any files that are in temps and post whats left .

I looked in the Panda log file but none of the items were in system restore (C:\System Volume Information) , Norton's quarantine folder or any temp files so since it was still too big to post I ran HouseCall and that fixed a few more items (although there were probably a dozen items it said it couldn't fix). I re-ran Spybot and Ad-Aware to try to clean some more things up and then finally re-ran HiJack This and here is the latest log:

I'm in the middle of re-running the Panda software scan in the hopes of getting a smaller log that I can post later today.

Thanks!

I'm breaking the logs into multiple posts so that they fit into the post size limit. I hope this is somewhat readable...

Hi

Mostly cookies
Manualy delete these files and folders
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WinNB57.dll
C:\WINDOWS\hejcdvy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fran-hot.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sate.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\sf
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\VCClient
C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinFixer 2005

Run hijackthis click config > msie tools > delete a file on reboot, paste this path and file into the file name box and click ok then let your system be restarted
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\eins004.exe

Download System Security Suite.
http://www.igorshpak.net/
Extract it from the zip file and run setup.exe
after the install you can delete setup.exe and the downloaded zip file
Start the program Check all the boxes under the 'Items to Clear' tab and click 'Clear Selected Items'. You will be prompted to reboot, do so or the job doesnt get done.

Thanks again...

I've tried to manually delete the files & directories you mentioned, but I noticed that sf, VCClient and WinFixer 2005 directories remain even though the delete command seemed to work (no error return code). Perhaps this is normal?

I'm running the HiJack This on reboot now...

Ok, I've run all the recommendations - ran HiJack This w/MSIE tools to delete the eins file on reboot (that seemed to work - I can't find the file). Then I also successfully ran the system security tools and did the reboot.

I'm post the latest HiJack This log just in case there is anything else lingering...

Hi

That log looks good, are there any problems now ?

Im not sure what your saying about the folder's,
they re-appeared after deletion ?
C:\PROGRAM FILES\sf
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\VCClient
C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinFixer 2005

I was finally able to delete the sf, VCClient, and WinFixer 2005 directories so that's taken care of.

But I re-ran spybot and it still found Command Service again and couldn't fix the following registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\cmdService
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cmdService

I went to the command line and type "sc delete cmdservice" but I get the response:

"The specified service does not exist as an installed service"

I'm still getting some pop-ups so there's something still lingering out there....any ideas?

Lets use a reg import to remove it

Launch Notepad (not wordpad), and copy and paste the contents of the code box below into a new text file.
Save it as file name: "fixme.reg" (not including the quotes). Save as file type: All files (*.*) and save it on your Desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\cmdService]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cmdService]

Now double-click on the fixme.reg file you saved and click on the Yes button when it asks if you would like to merge the information. Once you get a successful message delete fixme.reg.

Restart your PC.

popups are normal., maybe a description will help though, when where and to where do they lead ?

Download and run blacklite
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
click > scan then > next, next again then exit
there will be a new txt near blacklite. post it please.
!!Do not rename any files yet

OK, I ran the fixme.reg edit and it asked me if I wanted to add this information to the registry, I said YES, and then it said it was successfully added to the registry. I deleted the fixme.reg file and then rebooted.

I actually re-ran Spybot and it still found the cmd service registry keys that are the issue (should that have happened?).

Here's the post from Blacklite - there were more than 10,000 entries found - 99% looked like this......C:\Program Files\Movicken\Cache\00006172_439f5f19_00007a12

Here are the rest...

Hi

Please download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe
Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.
Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.
When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

Looks good

Run SpyBot twice and let us know if cmdservice shows the second time.

Are you familur at all with regedit ?

Bummer...I have to admit the pop ups seem to be dramatically reduced, but good 'ol Command Service is still showing up on every Spybot run and it still can't clean up the registry keys.

I'm not really familiar with regedit, but I'm more than willing to try my hand at it. I used to be a developer years ago so I'm a quick learn...

Be carefull here
Open regedit (start run regedit press enter)
expand the branchs untill you are at this location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cmdservice
Hilight cmdservice rightclick choose delete in the context menue

If you have trouble deleting a key. Then click once on the key name to highlight it and Rightclick > Permissions.
Then make sure you are Administrator and give yourself Full Control of that key. place a check next to allow full control (if its not there already)
You might need to click advanced and place a check next to [x] inherit from parent the permissions that apply to child objects.
Click Apply then ok untill your back at the suspect service key , right click and delete the key, Close the registry editor when done.

Do the same for this key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\cmdService

Thanks for the regedit recommendations - I was able to edit out the HKEY's and all seems to be working just fine! I ran spybot one last time and it found a command service issue for ControlSet002 and was able to fix it - thereby leaving no other open issues.

I seem to be clean now and pop ups dont seem to be a problem currently. I can't thank you enough for all your help!

I really appreciate it!
