Symantec A/V pointed out that my computer was infected with Trojan.Vundo, Infostealer, and WinFixer. I have already run the VundoFix utility from Atribune.org which seems to have worked nicely to get rid of Vundo. However, when I run HijackThis, there looks to me to be some residual items that might still be lurking out there. I would appreciate it if you would help me to make sure that everything is cleaned up properly.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.

Since I am seeing nothing but the HJT log, and not the Vundofix log, I can only comment on what I see. This is what I suggest you do.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {72CAEA53-9237-4166-84AC-79E89512EA13} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebyyxv.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {970921D3-C999-4AA0-B565-A8009938128b} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\scnhmvgb.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

If you want to run a good free trial to check for hidden junk, use this one with these instruction, delete or quarantine anything it finds and post the scan results if you have questions.

Tell me about any malware issues.

No infected files were found.

--------------------------------------------------------

As you can see, two of the missing files in the O2 section were removed with VundoFix: gebyyxv.dll and awtsr.dll.

I downloaded ATF Cleaner, then cleaned the suggested items you suggested with HijackThis.

Afterward, I ran the suggested AVG Anti-Spyware program. It found two items and deleted them. Here is the log from that:

While I was running the AVG Anti-Spyware program, Symantec A/V popped up two messages about Trojan.Vundo. One said that it was able to delete the files. The other said that it needed to reboot to remove the files. While the AVG Anti-Spyware program was finishing up, I ran the Atribune.org VundoFix again. It found nothing. I rebooted the system, then ran another HijackThis. Here's the log:

As you can see, two of the missing files in the O2 section were removed with VundoFix: gebyyxv.dll and awtsr.dll. Right...I concern myself with the Vundo files in the 020 Winlogon, You have none showing in the log, those are the ones that are hard to remove.

As far as I can see you have a clean HJT log.

While I was running the AVG Anti-Spyware program, Symantec A/V popped up two messages about Trojan.Vundo. One said that it was able to delete the files.Could be Norton is picking up the junk in the Vundofix backups. Remove all of that stuff from your computer. The fix does not update and if you ever need it again, you have to get it fresh. You can keep ATF-Cleaner if you wish.

I don't use Norton but I suppose it might also see the HJT backups and we did place some Vundo stuff in there. Clean those backups out also.

Check the AVG Anti-Spyware also:
Clean the quarantine folder
You can remove the files from the AVG AS Quarantine:
-Launch AVG AS and click the Infections button.
-Click the Quarantine tab
-Choose: Select All
-Click: Remove finally
-A window pops asking "Are you sure you want to remove the selected files...??"
-Select: Yes

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
