View Full Version : Need help, probably a smitfraud problem

Hello. my computer has always been sluggish, but yesterday it hit all time lows when all of a sudden pop ups which did not exist before start hounding my browser. I suspect it is a smitfraud problem, as Spybot recognized those in a search. Spybot searches return clean, and so did an online virus check. My HijackThis log follows, hopefully pasted in the right format. Thank you in advance for your help.

This is a Vundo infection, here is some information:

I will post all of the instructions at once, I suggest you take the time you need and do not rush when working on your computer. It is also important that you read and follow the directions, this one can be tough to remove.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

3) Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

(hold the report and the HJT log until you finish)

4) How to use the Delete on Reboot tool http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb
Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winjks32.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(some items may have been removed by vundofix, just don't miss any)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\vkclgmjg.dll <<< delete that file

(if that file give you a problem, use that same "Delete on Reboot" tool)

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the Vundofix.txt report and a new HJT log.

Thank you for your help. It took me a while to go through all those steps, and losing my internet in the middle preventing me from downloading the apps needed did not help the cause. Anyways, I've gone through it all, and am happy to say no popups appeared when I opened this browser. Still haven't taking it on a test run, and Im kinda scared to do so until you give me the green light. So without further ramblings, here is the most recent HJT log and the Vundofix.txt log, as requested. Again, thank you very much for taking your time with this, it is greatly appreciated.

I also question why you have it running everytime you boot your computer?
