View Full Version : Zlob Detected
Ok, I've tried everything I can think of but Zlob keeps installing 3 BHO's in my registry. I think it might be time for some professional help. HJT log is posted below. Yes I know I don't have an AV program but this is my gaming computer so I don't usually go on the internet with it and Norton kept slowing down the machine. Figures eh!?!
See HJT log below.

Hello.
Your log shows:
Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000)
You are currently using an unpatched version of Windows XP.
The machine will be on the internet during cleanup, it does not take long to pick up infections on an unpatched Operating System.
Before a helper can attempt to assist in the removal of any malware, you must update to Service Pack 1a.
Get SP1a here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/default.mspx
Unless you plan never to get on the WWW with this PC or share software; AFTER it is verified that the machine appears to be clean, you will need to get SP2.
See: You and Windows, a joint effort (http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=25290&postcount=4)
Once you have updated your Windows to SP1a, please post a new HijackThis log for a helper to analyse, using the Post Reply button.
Regards. :)

Since some of the infections were backdoors, If this system is used for online banking or has credit card information on it, all passwords should be changed immediately by using a different computer (not the infected one!) to make the changes. Banking and credit card institutions, if any, should be notified of the possible security breech. I suggest that you read this (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451) article too.
How is the computer running at the moment?
It seems to be running fine. None of the BHO's showed back up after reboot.
Regarding the files in my temp directory, I know this is going to sound like a load of BS but they're the contents of a "Utilities" CD that was lent to me that I dumped in the temp directory temporarily quite some time ago. Trust me, I've long since deleted the entire directory!!! This is my gaming machine so I only access it for that purpose (mostly). Also why I never initially downloaded the service packs.
So, at this point, can I assume that the machine is clear? And if so, shall I turn on some of the security features that I turned off initially and download SP2???
Thanks.
P.S. I can't edit my own entries. Can you please edit out my name in the AVG log? Thanks....it's embarrasing enough without my name showing! :red:
I edited the name...
I think that it is best to run a one more scanner just to be sure...
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)
Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner
You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Will do. Unfortunately I won't be able to get to it until tomorrow night (out of town tonight). I'll let you know ASAP.
P.S. Thanks for the edit!

Hello :)
Looks pretty good now. how is the computer running?
It seems to be running just fine. Daily scans show no further infections either. If things look good, can I turn back on some of the protection features that I turned off earlier in Spybot and AVG? Oh and I'll probably need to install SP2 now right?
Thanks.
Hi again, it is looking clean now :)
And you can now enable the protections.
Then the first priority is to visit Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) and get your system updated
-> At first, install Win XP Service Pack 2 Update
-> Reboot and get back to the Windows Update
-> Install all remaining important updates
(NOTE: You'll propably have to reboot and get back to the update several times before all of them are installed)
Now you can clean AVG's Quarantine:
Open AVG Anti-Spyware
Click Infections
Click Quarantine tab
Click Select all
Click Remove finally
Close the program
You can remove the tools we used.
Now you can make your hidden files hidden again.
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Check "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.
=============
