win32 seems to be a recurring theme on my computer, every time i think i've gotten rid of it it pops up the next week. am i not getting rid of it as i think i am or do i just keep re-infecting myself? i also had a smitfraud problem that seems to be gone now. i went through the 'before you post a log' thread and did everything accordingly, except i couldn't figure out how to save a log with the eTrust online scanner, which came up clean anyway. here's my HJT:

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information. "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.

I need to be sure you have read and understand the instructions. I need more information than you have provided.

What exactly is this >> win32 ? That tells me exactly nohting. If that is a file, what is the file path or name of the file.

Do you know what these two items are?
C:\WINDOWS\StealthControl.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Runner.EXE

If not, scan the file here and post the results:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

i have read the 'before you post' thread and done my best to stick to it.

ill try to clarify the win32 thing as best i can but as you an tell by now i don't know what the heck i'm talking about...
Win32.Agent.At ...4 entries, found and fixed by spybot.
Win32:Trojan-gen ...multiple files/keys found and deleted by avast!

C:\WINDOWS\StealthControl.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Runner.EXE
both of these are known to me but i scanned anyway, coming up clean on both accounts. StealthControl.exe is an file encryption program, and Runner.EXE is program that runs your screensaver when clicked.

i have a combofix log from a little while ago that showed some things in the system32 folder quarantined, as well as any of my old spybot logs if you need.

apologies for being stupid...

cheers

Sound like between Spybot and Avast the problem was taken care of. What symptoms are you receiving now that would indicate the presense of malware. If that combofix log is notmore than a couple of days old, go ahead and post it. Post a new HJT log also.

Thanks

i don't have symptoms at the moment, i'm just concerned because the frequency of infections on my computer has increased a great deal lately, leading me to wonder if i'm actually getting rid of the problems as i think i am.

here's a new HJT and a combofix w/ quarantined files that's a couple days old:

Thanks for returning your information. Understand that if I could tell you that you will not get infected again and could guarantee that, I would be counting my money along with Bill Gates. Have a look at these recent articles.
One in 10 web pages laced with malware
http://www.theregister.com/2007/05/11/google_malware_map/
NEW NET THREAT: INFECTIOUS WEB PAGES
http://redtape.msnbc.com/2007/05/the_next_net_th.html

There are no 100% guarantees and there are no silver bullets. No malware prevention program will guarantee you can not get infected.
It takes a lot of care anymore, I personally no longer "surf" the web, I go where I know I need to go and I believe I will be safe. Hackers even find a way into valid websites and infect folks before they are found and removed. Until the laws catch up, and something is done to severely punish these hackers who violate personal property as surely as if it was someone's home, the internet is going to remain a dangerous place.

I will post advice from some expects in malware prevention before we finish. You HJT log looks good, just some light cleaning to do and I want to do a couple of things before we do that.
Remove combofix completely from your computer. Make sure you get it all:
C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\
C:\Combofix
anything on the computer. That will get rid of all quarantined items. Then please do this.

1) Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

2) Follow the instructions in this link ro run AVG Anti-Spyware. Make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

3) Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the uninstall list, the scan report from AVG Anti-Spyware, the combofix log, and a new HJT log.

Thanks

Thanks for returning your information, and I understand exactly what you want, which is the same thing I would want if I were in your position. I wish there were some way I could assure, unfortunately all I can do is continue to battle the lowlifes involved with malware and do the best I can.

Uninstall list: I am looking for any malware or security issues, you should look for programs you no longer use, or stuff you do know know that I may not be aware of.

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_02 <<< very, very dangerous. See this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
Download the newest version of Java and uninstall this unsafe old version in Add Remove programs. This old Java is the major way infected webpages are used to exploit you.

Java Web Start <<< I am not sure what this is? I would look to see if it can be updated.

OIN
Outerinfo
Uninstall those, they are both part of PurityScan adware:

http://www.xblock.com/product_show.php?id=618 here is an uninstaller if you have any problems:

Viewpoint Media Player (optional but suggested)
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge.

I see you download codex, you may want to read this:

AVG Anti-Spyware - Scan Report Created at: 9:54:34 PM 5/29/2007

Seems you chose No action taken instead of delete or quarantine anything it finds as posted in the instructions?
They all appears to be cookies, but I would delete them.

ComboFix 07-05.27.V

C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bnndikav.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ifgjxkjm.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fjnakwbo.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqtwa.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mjkxjgfi.ini
Just have a quick glace in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder and make sure those files are gone.

also delete these:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\T1QaSQ <<< file only
C:\TEMP\0b9 <<< file only
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SBO <<< file only
C:\VundoFix Backups <<< folder

Hijackthis Backups <<< delete anything in the HJT backups

C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt ... 2007-05-29 22:02 <<< delete the complete folder

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 10:07:06 PM, on 5/29/2007

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - (no file)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Let me hear how the computer is running, I will post all of the information for you now.

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Some good information for you:
