This is the new popup i am getting from McAfee. When I do a scan with spybot s&d it finds nothing.

Sorry for the confustion on the previous post. When I posted the online result, I had the curser in the middle of the hijackthis report. If you need for me to repost, please let me know.

I am not seeing anything in the HJT log and the scan reported nothing either? I need more information, here is the Google on the item:

Tell me exactly what you are seeing when you get the popup. If it is a McAfee popup warning you about something, give me all of that information, especially the name or pathway of the item. Any information you think may help.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\ <<< out of date, download the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove programs.

Let's have a look at your Uninstall list, like this:
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.


and a look at a BlackLight scan in case we are dealing with a hidden rootkit infection:
Please download F-Secure BlackLight Beta:

Save it to its own folder in the Desktop
Double-click blbeta.exe to run the program
Click : Scan
A list of all items found is created

The list is in the BlackLight folder on the Desktop, and named fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (xxxxxxx are numbers).

Please provide the log created by BlackLight in your next reply.

(do not remove anything most if not all of the files will be valid)

Post information, your uninstall list, and the scan results from BlackLight.

While waiting to hear back from someone, I ran McAfee virus scan again and I see that it did find and remove the vrius this time.

But to reply to your inqery...

McAfee would supply a pop up stating the following:

Detection name: Spyware-JuanSearch(Potentially Unwanted Program), Spyware-JuanSearch(Potentially Unwanted Program)

Thanks for letting me know and if your issue is resolved and you do not wish to run those tests, that is fine.

Here is a tutorial about System Restore

Understand that even though McAfee may have been able to remove the PUP from your computer, it can not remove the backup in the System Restore files, those are Windows protected files and the only way to clean them is like this:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

This is the same thing:
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
