I am not sure what this is, but when ever I start my computer a flashing icon that is the shape of a circle with an X in it and a triangular exlimation point sign appears in my task bar, ever so often messages pop-up like a windows warning saying i have spy ware and if i click it, it will direct me to anti-spy ware sites to download anti-spy ware software which is actually mal ware, I am not sure how to remove it I've run spy ware scans and such but I can't seem to get rid of it. Please help.

Welcome to Safer Networking, if you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, it appears you have missed some important instructions our administrator has posted at the top of the forum, especially this: "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please read and follow all instructions and post all required logs or reports, anything less will slow your process.
Use "Post Reply" to post the information in the instructions and stay in the same topic.
Since this sounds like a Vundo infection, follow the directions I posted, but make sure you get your HJT version like this:
Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php?page=download
Download it to your Program Files folder.
Doubleclick the HijackThis_V2.exe to start it.
Click "Do a System Scan and save a logfile"
This will create a HijackThislog.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply
Thanks

Looks like I was wrong, appears it may be Spylocked which is part of a Smitfraud infections. I need to take a look since all I can see in the HJT log is: O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: infumate - {d7058baa-49a4-40b7-95c2-eec95cdf51f3} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\viuaoq.dll
http://www.castlecops.com/O22.html
{d7058baa-49a4-40b7-95c2-eec95cdf51f3} X infumate %SYSTEM%\viuaoq.dll Smitfraud
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.
Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm
Post that C:\rapport.txt from Smitfraudfix.
Thanks

Thanks for returning that report, you do have a Smitfraud infection:
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< tutorial if needed
Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.
Post the C:\rapport.txt from Smitfraudfix and a new HJT log.
Thanks

Thanks for returning the information, the HJT log looks clean of malware. It looks like the Smitfraudfix report:
Scan done at 1:06:51.81, Mon 06/04/2007 <<<SmitfraudFix
Scan saved at 1:06:10 AM, on 6/4/2007 <<< HJT
was run after the HJT Log? The HJT log needs to be a reflection of the computer once Smitfraudfix has done it's job and the computer has been rebooted, but I see no evidence of any malware in the log. It was hidden anyway.
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam
If it is running well then consider this:
If you want to run a good free trial to check for hidden junk, use this one with these instruction, delete or quarantine anything it finds and post the scan results if you have questions.

Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
