after combofix ran, it deleted pretty much every internet explorer icon... is that normal?

Thanks for returning your information, this is the one we were after:
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\perfc000.dat
and it is tough to remove. This is a complex tool and the only one that cleans that item. All I can say is if you look at the new HJT log, that item is gone. I will not pretend I know all about how this tool works, just that it does. The only thing I can think is that this:
"C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\Desktop.\internet explorer.lnk"
Is what was infected. How is the computer running now?

Let's run a check to make sure nothing else is hiding from HJT:
Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

run cleanmgr
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/cleanmgr/

Restart the computer and post the scan report from AVG Anti-Spyware and tell me about any malware issues.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, the HJT log looks ok and AVG found nothing a couple of cookies that you chose to
"No action taken" instead of "delete or quarantine" but I assume you know how to delete cookies.

Let's clean System Restore: System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

In the event we are dealing with a corrupt of missing file, please run System Fil Checker: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Next, it is very important that you post the error messages word for word, this one:
BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : BFA6DC34 BCP3 : B873EAF4
returns nothing in Google?

BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1
have a look at some of this information, perhaps it will help:
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic34398.html

I fear you have problems not malware related. Let me know if you find anything.
