First let me thank the spybot team in advance for assissting me with my smitfraud issues. Reading other posts, I see I am not alone in getting this problem.

I am getting unwanted pop-up while on the internet. I use symantic anti virus software which autoprotect feature has been picking up the Trojan Vundo virus but has not been able to fix it. Spybot Search and Destroy finds the Smitfraud-C toolbar888 and while it appears to fix the issue, the next time I conduct the scan, Smitfraud reappears.

I tried my best to follow the pre-post directions. The suggested online scan picked up the following:
File: ljjijgd.dll Win32/Chisyne!generic
Status: infected
Location: C:\WINDOWS\system32

But was not able to cure the file.

All advice given is taken at your own risk.

Please make sure you reviewed the above information so we will be on the same page.

The hackers hide their junk from HJT but I see one marker and the information you provided indicates this infection is present. First some information for your benefit:

So we can see the infection, rename HJT.exe, call it rajibsen.exe or whatever you wish. On as reboot should see the infection in the 02 BHO/020 Winlogon ares of the HJT log.

I can tell you that folks who take the time to read and follow the directions have few problems with this removal.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

We have more to do once I see the reports, keep the computer offline as much as possible until we get that done.

You see the Vundofix told you able out of date versions, your Java scheduler must not be working or not set right:

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log and let me know how the computer is running.

Thanks for returning your information and I see no malware in your HJT log:bigthumb: I would say you are good to go, let's do this now: System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

If you want to run a good free trial to check for hidden junk, use this one with these instruction, delete or quarantine anything it finds and post the scan results if you have questions.

Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
