Hello,

In the last 3 days, my computer has experienced a marked decline in ability and speed when running just about every application I have. I've run Norton, Spybot, and AdAware, but they haven't come up with anything substantive.

I apologize in advance if there is nothing sinister going on here, but I don't know why else my machine would suddenly cease functioning at its normal level of performance.

It's important that you have read and followed the above instructions so we are on the same page.

Looking at this HJT log, I see an out of date Java program, see this:

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe and since that is the scheduler, it must not be working either.
I would download the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove programs, and nothing else. Keep in mind HJT can not see everything which is why we ask for an online scan, but in your case, where you have no symptoms other than slow, it is very likely something other than malware is causing it. I suggest you start here, and I will give you several links so they may duplicate.

One or more recent Windows updates are causing issues for some users, this slowdown did not appear in conjunction with Windows Updates or the download or installation of any other program?

Thank you for the links to all the optimization help sites. I've gone through each one and tweaked a lot of the unneeded startup programs and so on. As far as I can tell, the system seems to be running faster now.

In response to your question, the general malaise didn't seem to come at the hands of any new updates or installations to the computer, so, maybe it just needed to be cleaned up (which I've hopefully done now).

In any event, I'll run all the anti-virus/malware applications again to make sure there is still nothing showing up. Outside of this, it sounds like the problem is fixed...Hopefully it will stay that way!
