Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am running PC-cillian 2007, which doesn't detect the same smitfraud virus as spybot! Other than the with the spyware, and error messages saying 'trying to open harmful website' (PC-cillian states) I keep on getting 16bit MS-DOS subsystem error (win\temp\winf8t~1.exe The NTVDM.CPU has encountered and illegal instruction) over and over again! Please help!

Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

Hi, Straight after I finished the Vundofix, whilst viewing your forum, an error came up!

16bit System Scan Error
windows\temp\win9BT~1.exe
The NTVDM cpu encountered an illegal instruction
CS:0550 IP:01a4 OP:6372 bf 3c 2f
Choose 'close' to terminate the application

I've had this error message a million times in the last couple of days.
Again, Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi

Next step is to move HijackThis to own folder.

Download HjT 2.00 beta from here (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php?page=download) and after that post a log using that version, please :)

HI Shaba,

Firstly, To answer your question, Trend Micro does have an antivirus. I have the 'Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007. It's suppose to protect me from viruses, hackers, phishing scams. It also removes and blocks spyware and rootkits (whatever they are). BUT, I scanned its PC-cillian (spyware only) and it came up with a zero problems! I did another scan straight after with AVG and came up with all sorts (86 in total). So much for PC-cillian being one of the worlds best security programs! Secondly, I couldn't delete C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winmyy32.dll as it was 'being used by another program'. I managed to move it to another Directory though, it that ok? Lastly, I followed your directions strictly but I couldn't save a log with AVG cuz as soon as I (applied all actions) which was option #3, it didn't allow me to save a report. Sorry for the long post, here is the HijackThis Log.

Hi

Then you should uninstall Authentium AntiVirus via add/remove programs.

Did you have troubles fixing those HjT entries? I mean all entries I instructed to fix are still there.

You are also infected with a keylogger so it's recommenable that you won't use this computer much before you're clean and contact your bank/credit card company if you have used their services via this computer.

[QUOTE=Shaba;92070]Hi

Then you should uninstall Authentium AntiVirus via add/remove programs.

Hi again, Sorry, I'm not familiar with this "Authentium antivirus"! and I don't think I have it installed. I also did fix the HJT entries before as you asked, and I just deleted them again.

Thanks.

Hi

Yes, you have:

O23 - Service: DvpApi (dvpapi) - Authentium, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Authentium\AntiVirus\dvpapi.exe

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

http://img.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/hijackthis/uninstall-man.gif

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Hi

Well you can't uninstall anything with HijackThis.

Do you have ccleaner installed?

If so, you may try uninstall Authentium AntiVirus SDK - 2 via ccleaner.

If not, get it from here (http://www.ccleaner.com)

Hi

Logs look good.

All viruses are in system restore and inactive at the moment. I give you later instructions how to empty it.

Other than that, any problems left?

Yeah thanks again for all your help, I just deleted all the viruses and spyware that were in my PC-cillian quarantine folder. What do you mean about the inactive viruses in my system restore folder?

Thanks.:bigthumb:

Hi

Then you're clean!

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. A malicious site could render Java content under older, vulnerable versions of Sun's software if the user has not removed them. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update: Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 1 (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) and save it to your desktop.
Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1...allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u1-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

Windows XP System Restore Guide (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html)

Reenable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt

Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable

Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable

Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt

Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt

Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt

When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.

If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic405.html)

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Understanding and Using Firewalls (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial60.html)

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com (http://www.windowsupdate.com) regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/?showtutorial=48)

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial49.html)

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety

IE/Spyad (http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htm) <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system.
