Looks like this one caught up with me. I can't delete it with the Spybot software. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have a malware issue, please take the time to tell us what it is, describe it in as much detail as possible. If you receive error messages, post the exactly "word for word"

Then I have seen help posts showing how to run checks and post logs so that someone in the "know" can see what the problems are and suggest ways of getting rid of the virus.

I am getting pop-up constantly on my IE 7. I have run several McAfee virus scans and it says it removes it, but when I reboot it is right back.

No, we can not work miracles, HJT provides a little help and as you saw I made suggestion from viewing it that you should already of acted on. We depend much on what the member has to say to help us decide which directions to take and tools to use, which is why I asked for more information from you.

I am getting pop-up constantly on my IE 7.What are these popups, where do they direct you, what do they want you to purchase?

Did you place these items in your "Trusted Zone"? Could the popups be coming them them, you have allowed them a lot of access to your computer?

Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Provide the information I requested, the uninstall list and a new HJT log.

I updated Spybot and ran it again. The only 3 items that it could not remove were associated with Smitfraud-C.CoreService. It said they were still in use (in memory). I restarted and re-ran Spybot and it still couldn't remove them.

I deleted all the items in my "Trusted Zone except http://*.briefing.com which I could not delete for some reason. I had previously included these in my trusted list as I use them almost everyday. They are gone now to see if this solves the problem. It did not. Still getting pop-ups.

How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

I cleaned the "Trusted Zone" with the DelDomains.inf download.

I have removed the old Java and installed 1.5.0_12. One program that I use every day cannot yet support the 1.6 version of Java.

I uninstalled Paltalk: Napster: and Outerinfo: and Viewpoint Media Player. by removing them in control panel "add/remove" section?

I made the files and folders visable.

I downloaded the ATF Cleaner

I removed 4 of the 5 items you suggested in HijackThis (scan only) and checked the boxes, but the Palstart was not there. I deleted the Paltalk Messenger folder.

I ran the ATF Cleaner

Then I ran the HJT again.

Have a look at the HJT log, there are a couple of things I am not sure of but they don't look like malware. Anything in the log you do not know? Any thoughts that you have?

Let's start with a look for a hidden rootkit infection, like this:

I didn't make the items "visible" again as you suggested in your earlier post. i.e. in My Computer, Folder Options. Don't know if this would affect the log results.

I still think this has something to do with the Smitfraud-C.CoreService trogan that is running in background somehow so it can not be deleted. Just my feelings.

Thanks for the feedback, Blacklight was clean. Let's look for more information.

1) http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

2) Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:

Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
Close Dr.Web Cureit.
Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.


Restart and post the C:\rapport.txt from Smitfraudfix and the log from Dr.Web.

Thanks for returning that information, neither program really showed anything in the way of malware. You may remove the tools we downloaded to search for malware with. Exactly what issues are you having?
I would like to see a HJT log with a new version of HJT, follow these directions:

Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://hijack1.trend-braintree.com/hjt/eval/HijackThis.exe
Download it to your Program Files folder.
Doubleclick the HijackThis_V2.exe to start it.
Click "Do a System Scan and save a logfile"
This will create a HijackThislog.

I am getting pop-up constantly on my IE 7. I have run several McAfee virus scans and it says it removes it, but when I reboot it is right back.

Exactly what is IT, complete name and pathway please. What choices does McAfee give you to remove it?

Post another uninstall list, edit out these items, I do not need to see them:

Microsoft (anything that starts with)
Security Update
Update for Windows
Windows (anything that starts with)

I will remove some items that do not appear to be adware related, but may be. Once we know we have to popups stopped, you can put the stuff back if you are sure it is safe.

Use HJT to remove these items, you will be prompted to install them again the next time you visit the site if they are valid.

I see you are still running a Symantec Service while McAfee is your antivirus program? I suggest you disable that service at the least.

Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Post that scan results and any information I requested above.
