Vundo cannot be removed by Vundofix

Hi,

Several days ago, my Spybot Search & destroy (updated with latest updates) discover Virtumonde and "Fixed the problem" cannot work and so I do Search & destroy again after reboot, still Virtumonde cannot be removed.

Searching around the web, I have downloaded "VundoFix" and use it to scan and remove Vundo files. Trying it many times and reboot to run "VundoFix", there are still Vundo files around.

Also, the Spybot teatimer always popup and telling me that some register changes needed and of course I denied it. but it rains like Christmas tree (the requested for changes never stop). Once in a while AVG also alert me that there is a virus and need Heal.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information. "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You also have this trojan runnng from your services: http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/trojtinydlj.html
and you have not remove the Vundo infection. It is important that you read and follow the directions, those that do have few issues removing this junk. If you have Vundofix onboard, delete it and download it fresh from the link I provide.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) TeaTimer will block changes we must make, turn it off until we are done:

This is very important, sometimes we have to uninstall the complete program!!

4) Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to dns cache reader and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

5) Delete the Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type (DNSCacheReader) and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

6) Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

(save the report and HJT log until you finish)


7) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(some items may be gone, removed by Vundo fix. Do not be concerned)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

8) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\j6251939.exe <<< delete that file (should be gone, don't miss it)

9) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the Vundofix report and a new HJT log.

The second one was even on the list in the last instructions. This infection is not easy to get rid of. Run the scan until it is gone, watch the 020 items, they will either be gone or say (file missing) The BHO's are not a problem once the .dlls that logon when windows boots are removed.

Delete the old version of Vundofix and download a fresh one, Atribune is adding files to it all of the time, in fact you should already have uploaded the two above by now.

Can you specify which steps should I repeat? I have try this order:

1) download new VudoFix and run and remove
2) run HijackThis and click Fix Checked
3) Atf to clean

But VudoFix never find ssqrolk.dll

You need to be aware of those items and upload them them so they can be added to the fix. Make sure you download a new version, the one you used earlier need to be deleted.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

Once you have upload those files, then give this a try:

Open Vundofix by Doubleclicking on it, the point your mouse to the white box
above the buttons and right click, then click on Add More Files. When the
next window opens, copy and past the files into the boxes and click on Add
File(s), then click on Close Window. Then click Remove Vundo.

Thanks for returning your information, this junk does not want to let go. Just a bit more to do and I believe we should run a good scan also, to look for anything hidden from HJT.

1) Make sure files and folers are still unhidden.

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

3) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

(if that files gives you trouble use this tool and instructions)

(don't confuse this program with your antivirus program, it is different and does another job)
4) Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.

By that, I mean the Save Scan button is only present after a scan when the "Do Not Automatically generate reports" radio button is ticked.

As far as I can see TeaTimner was NOT enabled in the last HJT log but is enabled in this one so I assume you turned it on before you used HJT. TeaTimer blocks changes and I would have asked you to turn it off had I seen it.
Please follow these instructions.

2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

Thanks for the feedback, if you have multiple accounts, I should see a HJT log while signed in to each of them. One account can show an infection while another may not.

Beside that, everything looks good and I suggest you do this:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Thanks a lot. It seems everything is ok now. Here is the HJT log for another account. For AVG anti-spyware scan, it show nothing infected, so I do not post the log here.

BTW, should I turn the Spybot S&D teatimer back on again?

That log is clean of malware and since the AVG Anti-Spyware log was clean also, I would say you are good to go. Be careful, it is a cyber-jungle out there.
