Smitfraud-c.toolbar888 Help

Ok so i was reading some threads on the Smitfraud-c.toolbar888 after i found my computer was infected, i have tried everything, the latest one was the vundofix, but it does not remove 2 of the files C:\WINDOWS\System32\Gebcy.dll and C:\WINDOWS\System32\ycbeg.ini as well smitfraud keeps reappearing in my spybot scan. Please Help :)

2) Vundo infections are hard to remove, if you want help follow the directions above which are Pinned to the top of the forum. When it is time to get HJT use these intructions:
Download Trend Micro Hijack This™

Download it to your Program Files folder.
Doubleclick the HijackThis_V2.exe to start it.
Click "Do a System Scan and save a logfile"
This will create a HijackThislog.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply

This infection is tricky to remove, but I have found folks who take the time to read and follow the directions carefully have few problem.
I will post a lot of instructions and I am surely not rushing you. I encourage you to take the time you need to execute the instructions. It is not a bad idea to stay offline as much as possible until you are clean, this junk will download more.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

(I see at least one Vundo file that has been removed. If you should have Vundofix onboard, it is very important you delete it and download it fresh from the link I provide)


Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

4) Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

(hold the report and HJT log until you finish)

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\LimeWire\ <<< delete that folder

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jmjtfesc.dll <<< delete that file

(if that file gives you trouble, use this tool and instructions)

7) You have AVG Anti-Spyware onboard, run it according to these instructions: Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.

8) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the Vundofix report, the scan results from AVG Anti-Spyware and a new HJT log.

OK i followed the instructions as closely as i could. Expirienced a problem, AVG Antivirus was rendered useless and i had to download a new one. Vundofix found nothing. As well my new antivirus scan is to large to post or attach in the forums so all i can do is give you my hjt log.

AVG Antivirus was rendered useless and i had to download a new one
I have not requested a scan from AVG Antivirus, read the instructions. If you used AVG Anti-Spyware as I posted and the log is still hugh then don't try to post it, just let me know. There was just an update and the instructions may need to be tweaked.

I see no malware in this HJT log, but the log looks like items are being removed or a white list is being used?

haha, oh, well then never mind about the AVG part sorry. I will run some other scans and make sure im free, i am no longer expiriencing many of my prior symptoms such as random popups etc. and my new agv rid my computer of some trojan virus's. But could you please clairfy on what you mean about a white list, or things being delted please?

I apologize, AVG Anti-Spyware just did updates because of issues they were having running in Safe mode, read about it here:

That was why I thought you removed items from the HJT log, and why I asked the question. The log you showed me was clean. If you are still having malware issues I can give you additional scans to look for it.
I just can't see it in the HJT log and was hoping AVG Anti-Spyware would remove anything left, it usually does.

Excellent after running a few scans, i found my computer to be completly free of all crap . . . haha. Thank you for taking the time. And i was wondering if you could maybe giving me some advice on how to avoid getting other infections such as this. If you have any.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
