Hi, i'm blonde so please be patient. I've managed to rid my comp of all virus programs except this one. It won't die, it just keeps saying file is in use (which it is in that its sending my personal information to evil ppl). I've tried AVG, Spybot, TrendMicro Housecall and combo fix. Nada! :sad: If anyone can help me i would be so so grateful!

Now I should also say this item will not cause issues other than appearing in the Spybot scan. If you are experiencing malware issues then it is being caused by something other than that and I suggest you read and follow the directions which are also posted at the top of this forum.

Wow, yeah sorry bout that....jumped the gun! I think i may have managed to get rid of Smitfraud, but picked up Vundo in the process :oops: . I did a CA online scan and got three hits;(sorry dont know how to access the log)

Hi Kirsti, These hackers hide Vundo from HJT 1.99.1. Would you return to here: C:\Anti-Spyware\HijackThis.exe <<< rename HJT.exe to Kristi82.exe or whatever you wish. Then reboot and post a new HJT log.

Please be patient, I am in Florida and we will clean this as quickly as we can but remote repairs take time. Stay offine as much as possible as the junk will download more on you. Do not be concerned with Safe Mode just now, we will probably not need it.

G'Day and thanks for returning your information and the feedback. You did not run any tools except the ones you mentioned...correct.

C:\QooBox\Quarantine\ <<< those items are quarantined by combofix and can do you no harm. We will remove combofix from your computer but I want to make sure I do not wish to use it again first.
It looks like Vundofix was run? But combofix may have done the damage to Vundo. Let's clean the rest of it out and see what happens.

Before we start, I can not see an anti-virus program running on this computer. This is cyber-suicide anymore. AVG Anti-Spyware does not do this. If I am correct and you need a free anti-virus program, please choose one of these:

Download, install, update and run a complete system scan. Once that is done, then proceed like this.

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

4) Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the AVG Anti-Spyware scan results and a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running.

Hi Phil, yup sorry i did run vundofix....i forgot! I downloaded avast (don't want to commit cyber suicide). I followed your instructions to the letter and the avg report and hjt logs follow; but comp seems to be running a lot better from what i can tell. No popups which is great.:yahoo: Thanks again! G'Day, thanks for the feedback, everything is looking in good in the reports, if you are running like you should be then I would say you are good to go. In the links I post will be a lot of information to help you stay safe, once you read it if you have questions...post them.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
