View Full Version : Big Problem, No Idea

Hi,

I'm struggling with a problem and I don't know what to try. I have something on my PC that causes the internet connection to freeze completely after a minute or two, then all I can get is the Page Cannot Be Displayed. I have to do a Winsock Reset Catalog and reboot to go back online, or I can't even connect to the server.

I've tried a few things and I'm afraid I just don't know enough about it. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

I am running XP Pro with the firewall on. I have AVG Free. I scanned with BitDefender, CWShredder, Ad-Aware, and SpyBot. No luck, I'm afraid.

Is there anyone who can help please? I have pasted my HijackThis log below and my SpyBotSD log is attached, but no immediate threats were found.

Thanks very much for reading.
Mark.

Click scan settings and place a check next to use [x]extended this database etc etc. Click ok.
Then choose: my computer: scan all your hard drives and mapped disks.

Hi,

I did the delete and uninstall, but have no improvement. Having to type
fast before the connection dies again...

Have done another scan. Can't actually find the directory it refers to.

Any ideas what I should try next?

Many thanks,

What connection service do you use and what type of connection is it ?
perhaps re-installing its software will help.

Try this

Start|Run then type cmd and click ok
At the c:\> prompt type:
c:\>ipconfig /release
press enter, wait untill its done > type
c:\>ipconfig /renew
press enter, wait untill its done > type
c:\>ipconfig /flushdns
press enter, wait untill its done > type
c:\>ipconfig /registerdns
press enter, wait untill its done > type
exit press enter
Shutdown the pc for 60 seconds, then startup and see if the problem persists

Hi Mark

Those are not cousing any problems, Unless you use system restore to go back to when the pc was infected. We can turn off then turn on system restore later when the problems are resolved, which will delete those items.

How is the internet connection acting ?

mjwilson9
2006-01-15, 00:12
I have done the things suggested and I'm afraid every time I surf for more than a couple of minutes the connection still freezes.

Try Contacting your ISP for assistance
They will probaly have you reset your modem and firewall (if you have one)

Thank you very much for your help and all the time you've spent on my problem. If the ISP fixes the problem, I'll post a reply to let you know.
