View Full Version : working on my last nerve...a lil help please
ok, im a bit of a noob when it comes to removing spyware. i am almost certain someone has hijacked my browser. my pc is extremely sluggish and im not sure how to fix it.
I ran adaware and it just pointed it out to me, said it would delete it on the next reboot. well i rebooted and it is still there. i downloaded spybot and it recognized it and said the same thing. but i still get pop ups and little message windows telling me my computer is infected and my marriage is in trouble.. *shrugs* yea, then i downloaded AVG and ran a test and it seemed to fix it. but as soon as i restarted my pc it took a second to bring my desk top up and all the icons, (when normally it wouldldnt take as long) and it takes a second for my browser to pop up. i was running the old IE when it first happened. i updated to the latest IE and it almost seems worse. (this was after i ran adaware, spybot, and AVG) im also not sure how to copy and paste my logs from the programs. im sure i will have to do it right after its gets done running. please, a little help. im sure i can better explain if someone replies to this. thank you.
oh, it would be super cool if you got at me on yahoo messenger - bignique007
thank you again.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, please understand this is going to be a lot of instructions. Do not rush, read and follow all directions carefully and take the time you need to do it safely, we have to start here:
You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan, post for me any item that can't be removed, the complete name and pathway.

C:\PROGRAM FILES~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\
C:\PROGRAM FILES~1\Grisoft\AVG7\
Both are good programs, uninstall one of those.
See this please: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\ <<< out of date and likely the reason you are infected. Download the newest version of Java and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove Programs.
I need to know what programs you have run so far, you don't need to mention the ones you already mentioned. It appears you ran Vundofix? If so do you still have the Vundofix report.
You have this trojan also running from services: http://www.fileresearchcenter.com/D/DLS0523PMW.EXE-10734.html

and I wish to know if you know what this is:
O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - C:\Program Files\Common Files\rterte.html
If not, navigate to that file and use one or more of these scans to find out:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
Instructions start here, let's see how much junk we can get rid of:
1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.
2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
3) Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to Net Agent and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.
4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
(MyDailyVideo bar is not malware and is optional but it is damaged. If you use it, install it again once we are finished)

Thanks for returning your information and good job with those complex instructions:bigthumb:
I requested information about this item: O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - C:\Program Files\Common Files\rterte.html
and no response from you as far as I can see. If you don't know why it is there, I would use HJT to remove it.
Uninstall list: Looks ok
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.0 (BETA) Scan saved at 11:56:44 PM, on 6/20/2007
This item is not going to be working right if at all, I would reinstall it if you use it.
R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
The rest looks free of malware, I suggest you do this:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam
If you want to run a good free trial to check for hidden junk, use this one with these instruction, delete or quarantine anything it finds and post the scan results if you have questions.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165
Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
