SpyBot settings

Hi

First post. Have used Ver 1.4 for some time, is there a way to tell the program to block what it finds in future ? Also in the past it only found 'Red' threats, now it also finds 'Green' threats in all sorts of strange places. A search the next day finds about the same amount. No attachment as forum size limit so low file cant be read.

The items in green are usage tracks. Checking for usage tracks was apparently added to your scan (it is not a default check). If you no longer want to check for usage tracks, go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Settings > File Sets and uncheck the following items (last two):

□ Usage Tracking
… □ Tracks.uti

Additional information:

You can't most block usage track items from being created. They are created by the operating system and various programs.

"User ones"? Do mean "Do I ignore the Usage tracks"? If so that all depends. From Spybot’s help facility


Usage tracks

Usage tracks are your fingerprints in your system. Whenever you visit a page with your browser, or just open any file, that information is stored deep inside Windows. In most cases that is very useful – if you want to open that file again, you can select it from a list instead of typing the whole filename or browsing the whole directory structure again.

But in some cases you may want to hide your activity, because spyware and internet attackers may use that information. Spybot - Search & Destroy can remove some of the most important and common tracks on your system.
I personally feel that most "Usage tracks" are very useful and rarely clear them. However, I regularly clear IE Cache (temporary internet files) and cookies keeping only specific cookies such as cookies from this forum. To clear IE Cache (temporary internet files) and cookies I use IE Privacy Keeper not Spybot.

In most cases yes, either through good surfing habits or browser settings. For a start see:

If you have any specific spyware detections (red) that reoccur please post a log of the actual detections you are getting. To do that:
Run another scan.
When the scan completes, right click on the results list, select "Copy results to clipboard".
Then paste (Ctrl+V) those results to a new post in this thread.
