Spybot reports four instances of Smitfraud, cleans one, says remaining three can be cleaned on scan after re-boot but can't. I have endless new IE7 windows popping up and explorer keeps on needing to be re-started.

I am running Vista 32.

I have run:

Spyeraser
AVG Anti-Spyware
F-Secure Anti-Spyware
F-Secure Blacklight Rootkit Cleaner
ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware
SUPER Anti Spyware
Spyware Blaster
Vundofix

It is only Spybot that even detects Smitfraud!!!

Can anyone help please?

Hello, it would be helpful if you showed the detection thus:

Open SpyBot.
Check for problems.
When finished, right click and choose copy results (not the full report) to clipboard and post that into topic.

When you say:
I have endless new IE7 windows popping up and explorer keeps on needing to be re-started.

Please explain further, thanks.

Thx for the reply.

I also tried:

A-squared
Trojan Hunter

None of them were any help at all.

All credit to Spybot for being the only one even to detect the problem.

I installed Spyware Doctor and it fixed all problems immediately!!!!

What a relief!

Thank you for letting us know, if you would like someone to check a HJT log to make sure, please feel free to post one in the Malware Removal Forum (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22)

The instruction for producing one is here: "BEFORE you POST" (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

The so called Smit family of hijackers, is not easy to remove via anti spyware programs, as there is a part of the infection that mutates frequently, needing specialised tools to remove. ;)

Best regards.
