dont see much in the log as far as malware goes. a clean online scan is certaintly a good sign.

this: SpywareBot isnt one of the "better" malware scanners.

I did install ad cat but it wouldn't fix anything so I removed it (or so I thought). You recommend the first program to remove malware (ad warrior was it?) I will instal whatever program you recommend and I can try running the HJT again and post the result here if you don't mind? I thank you so much for your time and effort =) I don't know much about computers so any help you guys are providing are very appreciated.

you dont need to run if you have already. the fact that they arent finding much is good. (you are one of the few lucky ones at this forum).

since its been awhile, please rescan and post a new hjt log. we can also try to figure why you cant change your homepage. could it be one of your malware programs, alot of them can block changes thinking that its a "hijacker"

I don't think it is one of the malware programs as I didn't have any of them until my homepage got hijacked then I searched and downloaded several to catch and destroy whatever has hijacked my hp. I will rerun HJT and post the result =) thank you

It is nothing serious but it was very frustrating and ate up alot of my time trying to fix it on my own when I first noticed that my hp got hijacked. I've never had any problem with computer before as I try to maintain it to best of my ability (which isn't much but so far have been lucky I guess).

In IE, click on Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, and scroll down to the 'Browsing' section.

Uncheck the box next to "Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)"> 'OK'.

This will disable all IE extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects (BHO's)- some of which you
might want to keep. You can re-enable the wanted ones later.

Close all instances of IE, then restart it.

COULDN'T FIND RESET WEB SETTING OPTION -under program tab those where for IE 6.0.
for IE7.0 try this:

with IE open, at the top-- go to tools, click on the advanced tab, then on the reset button.

i know i mentioned this already, but alot of security suites now have protection built in to prevent a start page change, thinkng its malware. did you poke around your mcafee suite for any setting like that?


I think I've removed HJT from my comp. Since I don't understand the scan log anyways. hjt is just a tool that will display startup locations for malware, its not a malware scanner or remover.

I didn't reset but after I deleted all the cookies and temp files again, it let me change my homepage. This was one of the first thing I've done when my hp got hijacked and it didn't do anything then but now it did. Weird weird but all is well and hurray to the happy end~ thanks for your time.

good. you can use ATFcleaner to make the process easier.
it will remove temp files, cookies etc with one click.
