View Full Version : Virtumonde found once--don't know if still active

Hello, I ran Spybot last night after updating, and found a Virtumonde trojan. However, after a couple more scans with Spybot, including 2 in safe mode, everything seems to be OK. Still, perhaps someone can look at my HJT file. BTW, what's the importance of changing HJT's name to scanner.exe (as I've read in a few posts)?

I ran the online E-trust virus scanner and it found no viruses, but I can't figure out how to get the text of the log file to paste it in.

HJT file follows:

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information. "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

The hackers have programed their junk to recognize HJT.exe and hide from it, renaming it usually shows the infection.

I see no evidence of Vundo in this HJT log, you do have some nasty adware called Netster. Let's read this first:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
D:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_05\ <<<< VERY out of date, download the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove programs.
That will get you infected.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://207.188.7.150/203a79d6929709f...p/RdxIE601.cab
netster

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

run cleanmgr
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/cleanmgr/

(won't hurt to clean these files if you have not recently done so)
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Thanks for your help. I realized last night that I should update Java so I uninstalled the old one, rebooted and installed the new one.

I followed your instructions and here's my current HJT log. The only thing I wonder about is the entry:

O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0005-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -

which I didn't see in the previous one. Anyway, here goes:

Thanks for a look at the log. I tired to scan the DPF but since it is so old CastleCops probably dropped it from the data base:
http://www.castlecops.com/ActiveX.html but as you can see here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0005-ABCDEFFEDCBA&btnG=Google+Search
O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0005-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.4.2_05) - ...
It is the plugin for the old item...seems they don't show in the HJT log until you remove the file.

You can use HJT to remove it if you wish. You may also rename HJT if you wish.

Thanks...safe surfing
