Hello,
I have been battling against the virus(s) for the last two days. I have tried several methods of removing them (and I believe I have removed some). However, I have some issues still to sort out and I believe the only way to solve my problems is by working with the talent on this forum. The major problems I am having is: Task Manager wont work, I had a pop up (in the running tasks bar near the clock) Warning spyware detected window (but I got rid of that. I then had rundll32.exe missing from my computer (but I fixed that) Also, when I try and uninstall things, or run programs, they cut out back to the desk top, but only for certain things. And lastly I cannot uninstall Spyware doctor (which is out of subscription). (I believe this is due to the programs cutting out problem.
Things I have already done.
1. Downloaded/Updated Spybot S&D (However, this was difficult because of the cutting back to the desk top, so I had to install it in safe mode)
2. Ran online scanner: Had issues with it. (It would close, and I didn't know how to delete the virus's or generate a report)
3. Here is the HJT:

Hi alveress85
1. Download combofix from one of these links:
Link1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link2 (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Post:
- a fresh HijackThis log

Hello Shaba! Thank you for replying.
When I double click on the ComboFix.exe. It gives me the following error message: cmd.exe is the title "Another program is currently using this file"
This happens with a lot of programs. However, if I were to go into safe mode, then I would be able to run the program. I will go ahead and do that now, then post the report:
Okay when I tried to go into safe mode to run ComboFix.exe. It gave me the following error: Terminal Error - Missing file "C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe is missing"
Also, when I go to shut down/restart my computer I get this program that is still running and asks me to end program or hit cancel. smgr.exe
Here is a fresh HJT log:

Hi
Download regedit.exe from here (http://forums.techguy.org/attachments/64663d1127776753/regedit.zip) and place to c:\windows
After that, please re-run combofix.

Hi Shaba,
Another problem :(
Now when I try to go into safe mode (by pressing F8 on startup) It does nothing, but continue to start up into normal mode. What should I do now?

Also, when I tired to place regedit.exe into the C://WINDOWS folder. It said cannot replace / move / copy because the file already exsists. When I look into C://WINDOWS the file is there. When I try to delete it tells me some other program is using it and it cannot be deleted. Also, this might sound weird, but there is Internet Explorer browsing sounds going on in the back ground of my computer, making me think some program or someone is monitering my computer and using invisible Internet explores to do it (I could be wrong about this; however)
I will await your instruction

Shaba,
I also am following the instructions located here: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=279
My BITDefender should be here from amazon in a few days.
I have installed Windows Defender, Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard, will be doing IE-SPYAD, and will be downloading the firewall.
I will still await your reply so we can make sure that my system is virus free though :)
Hi
Not clean yet, but yes much better
First we'll need to backup registry:
Start -> Run -> regedit -> ok. Then File -> Export. Give it a name and press Save.
Save text below as fix.reg on Notepad (save it as all files (*.*)) on Desktop
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_USERS\.default\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run]
"qmqq"=-
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\CMESys]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\TBPS]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\VVSN]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\WinTools]
It should look like this -> http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/reg.gif
Doubleclick fix.reg, press Yes and ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here (http://www.nellie2.co.uk/file.htm#How_to_Make_a_.Reg_File_) with screenshots.)
Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winzlo32 - winzlo32.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: Remote Administrator Service (r_server) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\r_server.exe" /service (file missing) <--- if you haven't installed it by yourself
Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.
Reboot
Delete these:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sfsync02.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysmon32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvpod.dll
C:\Program Files\Video.exe
C:\Program Files\Track_03.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Ryan\APPLIC~1\U3
C:\Program Files\uy.exe
Empty Recycle Bin

Hey Shaba,
I have installed AVG, and some other programs recommended on this forum. And ran a bunch of scans, I believe one of those scans may have deleted some of the files you wanted me to delete, because I could not find some of them. The ones I did find I deleted. (even search on drive C: did not find them) I also did everything that you asked.
Here is the new Combofix log:

By the way, I know have BITDefender installed on my computer as my anti-virus :)
Hi
Yes, that's possible :)
Do you have installed this by yourself?
O23 - Service: Remote Administrator Service (r_server) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\r_server.exe" /service (file missing)
If not, please fix that line.
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/kws/kavwebscan.html). You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
o Scan Options:
+ Scan Archives
+ Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Hello Shaba, hope your weekend is going well,
I had a problem deleting this file:
O23 - Service: Remote Administrator Service (r_server) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\r_server.exe" /service (file missing)
When I went to delete it from HJT it would delete, but then it would be back in the next scan that I did. When I searched for it in C:\WINDOWS\System32 I could not find it. I also tried to do a search on my computer for r_server.exe, and it was not found. I was going to try doing a delete on reboot from HJT, but I wanted to wait for your instruction to do so.
I have completed the Kaspersky Online virus-scanner; however, it had a problem scanning one of my files in my drive D. I know it was in the last few files before it scanned everything, and I really don't think that there are any other viruses in the last few files, here is the report: The report was too long. So here is the file. I hope this is okay. If not I can post the full report into several posts. http://download.yousendit.com/CA63C5961E3ECE05
Here is the new/fresh HJT log (note I have also ran BITDefender scan, and it deleted and removed quite a bit:

Hi
Logs look good.
All viruses are in system restore and inactive. I give you later instructions how to empty it.
Other than that, any problems left?

No problems left that I know of, I keep running BITDefender and Spybot and none of them have any viruses showing up any longer. The following are steps I have taken.
1: I have installed AVG, ran scans several times.
2: Deleted AVG, and installed BITdefender (ran several scans)
3: Installed spyware gaurd
4: Installed spyware blaster
5: Installed Sunbelt Firewall 4
6: Installed IE-Spyad (however, I use firefox)
7: Updated to the new windows update (and updated all updates)
8: went through and cleaned up my system of files, which were not needed.
9: Changed all passwords to everything, even banks, amazon, eBay, schools, E-mails, ect.
10: And have followed your advice.
I also, had a question about firefox, are they any good spyware/virus add-ons I can get for it? Which would help take the fight against spyware even further?? Which is safer, IE7 or firefox?
Is there anything else I can do to protect myself from virus/spyware?
Hi
Then you're clean!
"I also, had a question about firefox, are they any good spyware/virus add-ons I can get for it? Which would help take the fight against spyware even further?? Which is safer, IE7 or firefox?"
Noscript and AdBlock plus.
Firefox should be safer.
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.
You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:
Windows XP System Restore Guide (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html)
Reenable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.
See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:
Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic405.html)
Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Understanding and Using Firewalls (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial60.html)
Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com (http://www.windowsupdate.com) regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/?showtutorial=48)
Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/?showtutorial=43)
Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
Here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety
MVPS Hosts file (http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm) <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
Google Toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/) <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Comodo BOCLEAN (http://www.comodo.com/boclean/boclean.html) <= Stop identity thieves from getting personal information. Instantly detects well over 1,000,000 unique, variant and repack malware in total. And it's free.
Winpatrol (http://www.winpatrol.com/) <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software (http://www.winpatrol.com/features.html)
Stand Up and Be Counted ---> Malware Complaints (http://www.malwarecomplaints.info/index.php) <--- where you can make difference!
The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.
