Hi,
The internet on my laptop is not working and I believe the problem may be spy-ware related. I downloaded Spybot on my desktop and transferred it to the laptop on a CD. When I try to run it however it says it needs to update before it can 'search and destroy' which I cannot do because the internet is not functioning.

Is it possible to either run Spybot without updating or to download the files from the net on a different computer and then put it onto the infected computer using a CD?

Thank you!

If you are unable to get the updates using the integrated update facility, you can manually download an update file/program (spybotsd_includes.exe) from safer-networking.org. After downloading the update file you can transfer the update file/program the same way that you transferred the installation file/program and then execute an update file on the non-internet connected system. The file is located here:
Downloads – Home of Spybot-S&D!
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
The download item is:
Detection updates 2006-01-06 - product description
md5: 5622814E9A126BA7D15093388B33BE8B

This updates the detection rules. Only needed if you do not want to use the update function integrated into Spybot-S&D.

The direct link is:
http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe
This manual update file is updated around the same time that the updates are made available via the integrated update facility. The description changes on the download page but the download url remains constant.

richardtrainor:

You're welcome.

mattfactoryvideo:

Please start a thread (Topic) of your own and explain how you were detecting that "phishbank" is present on your system and why the software that is detecting it is not removing it.

There is a forum on this site were helpers assist people with malware removal problems. Possibly one of the helpers who assist people there can help you get rid of the "phishbank (virus/trojan)" To post there, follow the instructions here (the suggested scans may alleviate/eliminate the problem):
