View Full Version : What is i386p?

When I go to Start -> Run -> MSInfo32, and then go to Components -> Network -> Protocol, Microsoft says that I should see TEN entries. If not, something has corrupted my Winsock files. There are instructions at Microsoft.com on how to restore the Winsock file. When I follow the instructions, I still end up with 20 entries, and four of those entries start with i386p (such as i386pMSAFD or i386pRSVP).

In doing a search on i386p in the registry, I see that it is associated with Search Assistant. In doing a search at Google, I find several references to "bad stuff" associated with i386p.

I notice that others at this forum give you a copy of the log from "HijackThis". If that is helpful, I will do the same below. I started investigating this because I have a problem from time-to-time with wireless connectivity and I'm taking just about any advice I can get! I purchased a really neat laptop with a Centrino processor and all the good stuff, and I can't connect at about half of the WiFi hotspots I go to. I realize this problem may not be related, but I might as well fix it while I'm looking at other things. Thanks.

After more research, it appears that these additional entries are related to my internet filtering software...Cybersitter. Not a concern.

However, if you see any other problems, please let me know. Like I said, I seem to be having problems hooking up to free WiFi hotspots...especially those that are 802.11b. My Centrino computer with Intel 2200bg wireless adaptor SHOULD be able to connect, but it doesn't always work.

Thanks.

That looks fine hufhouse, :)

Id look into your internet filtering software for any connectivity problems
